Do they deliberately put the oldest and hardest possible vegetables in soup mixes?

They do, don't they? 40 minutes it's taken to cook the pieces of carrot and it's still hard. Bloody things!

I think I might need a soup maker.

Why are you buying soup mixes?
just use whatever veg you have in the bottom of the fridge.
Oldish broccoli and Philadelphia
carrot, red pepper and chilli
Easy peasy!

and soup makers are marvellous, I use mine all the time!
just about to consign some ancient carrots, half an onion and a bunch of coriander to mine.

Why are you buying soup mixes?

Because I have nerve damage in both hands and arms and chopping a lot of veg is very difficult and painful for me and sometimes impossible when or or both arms decide to completely give up the ghost.
Broccoli and Philadelphia sounds good though. I'll try that. Thank you.

Yes I think they do. I like the idea of soup mixes, especially for people who live alone and might not get through a whole head of celery etc but it's usually better to just buy the individual veg loose and chop yourself.

Ah that makes sense of why you want the soup mix ready chopped then. Do you have a food processor? Or maybe try a different supermarket's soup mix? I don't think the prices will vary a huge amount, maybe another brand is less bullet hard!

No food processor, well not one worthy of the name. I've tried a few brands and they all intermittently seem to have that problem but then I don't think I've tried Morrisons' so that might be worth a go. I think I'll get a soup maker though and it can fight it out with the hard bits of veg while I do other things.

It's good to hear that you love yours. Which brand do you have please?
