Fever from teething - myth?

A paediatrician told me this was a myth. But my baby keeps having low level fevers (38 degrees) coinciding with teething (spitting, dribbling, bright red cheeks, chewing, crankiness). She’s having a bout of teething at the moment and is having a low fever once a day/every couple of days. Interested to know your experiences of teething. Did your baby get a temperature?

Yes my DS got his first ever fever at 6 months (41°c). GP sufficiently worried enough to make us go to A and E. He had chest xrays, urine tests etc..couldn't find anything. This nurse whispered in my ear that his first tooth would probably appear within 24 hours. It did. But she acknowledged she shouldn't be telling me that.
To be fair other teeth came through without the drama of the first.

Yes, both children did.

I have chronic pain and when its really bad then my temperature changes too and I get feverish/shivery.

I’ve no idea how common this is, but one of my children has a fever spike whenever they’re under the weather for whatever reason. It started with teething, but over a decade later, it still happens as soon as they’re over tired, stressed or fighting off a cold or anything. It was a bit of a pain having to book a PCR each time it happened through Covid, but otherwise it’s not a problem. It’s just the way that being a bit poorly usually manifests for them.

Thanks so much all. This is really helpful. DD1 didn’t seem to get feverish with teething so I’ve been worried DD2 is ill and I’m not picking up on it!

I don't think it's anything but medical professionals might be concerned that parents downplay fe

Sorry, down play fevers because they assume it is teething and then something else is missed.

I work in paediatrics. Teething would usually only cause a slight raise in temperature, up to 38c. Temperatures higher than this are likely a virus or infection.

@redsky21 thanks so much this is really helpful. Yes a fever above 38 would definitely make me think unwell. these have been max 38, so probably teeth. So helpful to know.
