Please suggest a good cake for me to bake… but nothing too complicated! 🍰

I’m going to a friend’s for lunch at the end of the week. She’s providing the lunch but I said I’d bring a cake for dessert.

I’m a bit lacking in inspiration! Last time a took my super lemony lemon drizzle, so should do something different, but not sure what.🤔

What fairly straightforward cakes would you suggest?

thanks!

Don't get too excited, TERF with my standard of baking it's not likely to be particularly wonderful to look at!

I'm a baking novice and Mary Berry's Very Best Chocolate Fudge Cake is my winner, every time. The apricot jam sounds weird and I thought it would be weird, but actually it works really well:

The yogurt cake @LadyMonicaBaddingham mentioned is ace. Works every time and can adjust by adding all kind of stuff.

It was this but someone else has beat me to it! www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/dorset-apple-cake

Mary Berry's death by chocolate is really easy bung it all in a bowl and then in the oven. We usually ignore the icing and make ganache instead. The cake is usually better made and iced the day before then overnight the middle goes a bit gooey and delicious.
