Anyone else got any strange things that taste like other things? I think coriander tasting like soap to some people is a common one.

That's me. It's thought that it's genetic, but there are a number of aspects to it. Genetic oversensitivity to certain compounds (which are found in both soap and coriander) is one part of it.

I remember the Hersheys/Parmesan/old butter tasting like sick was discussed on QI and it being because of butryic acid which is also in vomit. I think I recall with American chocolate it had something to do with the fact that the milk for chocolate was transported great distances and so needed to be prevented from spoiling by adding butryic acid to it. Now it doesn't need it but is added as it's the 'taste' consumers are used to.

I'll stick to Dairy Milk! Although it's not as good as it was...
