Are chilblains always itchy?

It's always about this time of year I get sore bits on my fingers. Tiny little pin head sized marks or lumps under the skin, usually on the tips of my fingers and round the nails but occasionally in the middle section, palm side. They hurt to the touch but aren't itchy and don't match the NHS website for chilblains but do coincide with cold weather and no gloves.

If you get chilblains do they sound at all similar?

Bumping in the hope someone will come and talk to me about sore fingers 🖐

Could also be pompholyx

Chilblains are really itchy and are like large lumps really. Certainly not pinpricks.

This does not sound like chill blains, which tend to be larger lumps and can vaguely like your toes are both on fire or being eaten by fleas.
It sounds like pompholyx or possibly athlete’s foot that has spread to your hands. Then again though it’s not itchy.

Thank you all. I hadn't heard of pompholyx and have googled it, mine certainly aren't as widespread as Dr Google's examples and are much less sore looking. You have to look hard to see anything on my hands.

Interesting though because the whole hands do get a desperate need for moisturising after I've had any alcohol at this time of year.

sounds like hives, an allergic reaction to something? or stress?

OhAmBackAgain · 23/10/2022 16:10

i get the same as you occasionally, and was always told it was hives but I just googled hives images, and it doesn't look like them. 🤷‍♀️

VanillaParkersBowl · 23/10/2022 18:16

No it doesn't look like hives for me either.

I don't think it's stress as it's been the same for the last few years round about this time, when the weather turns colder.
