Best cream for (I think) a small anus tear

My son (12) has been saying it’s stinging when he does a poo and wipes afterwards. I think it’s a small tear from when he did a larger poo the other day.
we never really had creams and things when he was a baby, so I was wondering if Sudocream or Bepanthen would be the best thing to use? You just smear it on the offending area?

From prior experience, the best thing is to leave it to heal, and access to fresh air (rather than being coated by cream) is the best way to let it heal.
Also, what is his diet like? My GP recommended treating the cause rather than the outcome, so focusing on a fibre-heavy diet to prevent any possible further tearing.

Sudocreme 100%, it’ll take the sting away x

Ozgirl75 · 22/10/2022 06:21

Hmmm, that’s probably fine if it’s a baby, but I can’t see him lounging around the house with his little 12 year old butt out, sadly.
His diet is ok really, plenty of fruit and veg, he’s never had any issues before but I’m keen to get it sorted for him as he’s off on school camp in a week and at the moment he’s taking 10 minutes on the loo gingerly wiping and then can’t sit down for 10 mins afterwards, poor fellow.

Oh that’s good to know, that’s what he wants really, just no stinging pain.
Any other tips?

Watch out with sudocreme, it contains zinc which dries the skin out immensely!
Another poster mentioned sorting out his diet- which you mentioned is ok- so perhaps for this week get him on sachets of movicolon- to keep his poo soft so no more chance of tearing again.
I think I'd use savlon tbh. Or perhaps even cream for piles? Poor scone! X

Bramblejoos · 22/10/2022 06:57

Is he drinking enough liquids?

Zapx · 22/10/2022 07:09

Savlon or sudocreme, but the thing that will heal this is having really soft bowel movements. Really really really soft. Basically the problem can self perpetuate because when we anticipate pain we tense, then that makes it more likely to reopen the cut/do more damage. Prune juice can work well, lots of citrus fruits, that kind of thing. I feel for him it’s utterly miserable and can take a while to heal.

GP can prescribe more effective ointment and movicol.

Ozgirl75 · 22/10/2022 07:22

I’ve got movicol actually, but his poos aren’t particularly hard (he says), there was just one which was a bit “big” and it’s hurt. Normally I wouldn’t overly fuss, it’s just the camp issue that’s making me want it sorted more quickly.

Anusol is good. Heals skin quickly. Plenty of fresh orange juice and drink more water.

Onedayatatime22 · 22/10/2022 07:44

Germolene - the one with a bit of lidocaine in. Great for sore nether regions!

Realityloom · 22/10/2022 07:53

Bepanthen or metanium cream hands down! These work so much quicker. Bepanthen a lot less cloggy and thick.

FfayeN · 22/10/2022 07:55

Anusol....it's designed to heal fissures as well as haemorrhoids xx

Irresponsibl · 22/10/2022 13:01

@Ozgirl75 sorry no more tips, just that sudocreme is the go to in our house for anything of that sort and usually works a treat, soothes the skin too so no irritation x
