I have just got myself a decent camera (Nikon d5500) and am wanting to learn how to use it properly.

Does anyone know of any decent resources or have any hints and tips they would like to share?

Thank you

A Year With My Camera

Have a google to see if there's a camera club in your area. Take a subscription to a decent magazine - I read Digital Camera, for example, although my partner (who also does photography) says Amateur Photographer magazine is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Read the manual that came with it so you understand each function, try the D5500 for Dummies book and just get out there and take some pictures!

Hello I’m a self taught wildlife photographer! Is there a particular subject you’re looking to photograph? Eg portraits, street, landscape, animals ? And then I can advise more

Thanks folks

I bought the camera as I would like to do portraits mainly with my partner, don't want to say too much ad it isn't the thread for it, but slightly adult photos

I don't have much of a creative eye but luckily they have more of an idea what works, I've done a lot of looking at pics on Google and know what sort of thing we would like to replicate, but obviously don't want to do it all and then the pics turn out rubbish

In which case, you're probably better off looking at 1 or 2 beginners photography courses. You'll need to learn how to use the camera and how to set up and light a portrait shoot. I'm sure you'll find ones designed for boudoir photography if that's what you have in mind.
Have a look at things like wowcher for discounted ones.

That's really helpful, thank you
