So we have been begging for help for a long time. Constantly fighting for it no one would listen. So now that my son tried to kill himself. Took quite a big overdose.

The professionals are now doing a dance. MASH/social services have been in contact, crisis team, CAMHS.

CAMHS have been in daily contact since it happend. I feel angry/upset that it took my son to try and end his life to get listen to.

He is going to be seen by a team with in CAMHS that deal with more complex and urgent cases. I just hope they don't reject him.

I feel there is more to say but my head feels jumbled.

I hope it helps. I know the frustration of trying to get help for years them.my child got physically unwell - then camhs helped. But its left lasting

Issues that earlier intervention may have prevented.
I hope your son can engage and gets well soon

More than my son got. He took a significant overdose and got discharged with a phone number for the crisis team.

That's awful. I wish I knew what to say. Have you made a complaint in writing. Contacted any other professionals.

It should never get anywhere near this point for someone who realises they have a problem and asks for help. So sorry no one listened to you.

A friend very recently walked into A&E, explained her problems and that she wanted to take her life and was admitted onto a residential program immediately. Apparently some hospitals have direct access to programs. A friend with alcohol problems had similar experience. Not aimed at OP but one to remember for those reading who are in crisis 💐

I'm so sorry to hear this both as a mum and a MH professional. I don't work in CAMHS but from what I've heard they are just putting out fires and aren't able to do the preventative work due to massive referral rates.
I've just left community adult MH health nursing as I was only able to respond to those in Crisis and felt overwhelmeddespite being very experienced.
The model set up in the 1980s no longer works for todays MH issues. I hope your son is now on the road to recovery and obviously you're right that it shouldn't take suicide attempts to get support.

This was our experience too. The camhs crisis team would come and said have you tried colouring or watching tv. My child was 16.

A&E don't deal with children with mental health issues where I live. They refer to camhs.

Yes crises team are useless . They tried to tell him how he felt. And told him to have a bath. I have heard lots of simlar things. It's almost offensive to say that to someone who's so desperate. I think its only because other professionals have said they are going to try their best to help. Just hope they do.

Camhs are a national disgrace. Unless you have harmed the wait is two years, there's nothing to prevent getting to the point where they self harm.

I waited two years for triage in disability camhs, but that time my son had stopped strangling his 4 year old sister and punching her I the head. My only option was wait for it to pass or for a CP case for my dd. It's just totally wrong. Dd was being strangled daily but she wasn't dead so all good! Until the time I'm not in the room with my sld son snd he kills her

That's so bad. They talk about early intervention but seems that's gone out of the window . Are you still waiting for help?
