What is causing this itch? Please help me before I lose my mind!

Would love to hear any thoughts on this because it's driving me crazy.
A couple of weeks ago I got my flu jab and Covid booster together. I was absolutely fine afterwards, hardly even a sore arm. But a day or so later this itch started.

It's almost like a creeping feeling, like something is crawling on me. It could be on the back of my neck, then a few seconds later my arm or ear. If I feel it on my hand I've got my torch out and there is nothing there. I've felt it on my leg when I'm wearing tight skinny jeans. I have no rash, no bites there is nothing there only this desire to scratch!

I've checked us all for head lice, I've just brushed my hair vigorously over the bath with a brush and then a fine tooth comb, nothing at all. I've noticed the DC scratch their heads and checked them thoroughly and nothing only they both have patches of very dry skin.

My house is clean and we have no pets. I can't work this out and it's driving me to distraction. I've just had a very hot shower and I can still feel it. Any wise ideas?

Maybe buy some Hibiscrub and have a wash with it. You could have a microscopic bug of some sort.

Go get your liver function and bile acids checked. Liver problems can cause itching. Any yellowing of your eyes? Nausea? Pale stools?

hippoherostandinghere · 21/10/2022 12:57

@Icannoteven thanks. I have no liver disease symptoms, and sadly I know them too well as my DM died from liver disease this year. I don't take any medications and I don't drink alcohol. My DM didn't drink either but her liver disease has been attribute to chronic use ofmedications.

So sorry to hear about your DM x

You're not pregnant are you? Pregnancy can cause random itching.

Piggieinthemiddle · 21/10/2022 13:15

... Sorry pressed send too soon.

Itching in pregnancy can be caused by hormonal changes, so presumably it can be caused by hormones at other times too.

BlueKaftan · 21/10/2022 13:16

Can you take an antihistamine?

hippoherostandinghere · 21/10/2022 13:16

Not pregnant, last had period about 2 weeks ago. I'm 38 so probably too young to be menopausal? Although my brain also seems to have stopped working recently.

Take antihistamines at regular times today and see how you are. Sometimes you need more than one dose to kick-start them into action. You can take a second dose 8 hours later (even the one a day kinds.)

Does it feel like a pin prick sensation? I've been having this lately and it's so annoying

JanuaryBirthdays · 29/10/2022 20:08

I had an itching sensation/bugs crawling on me feeling (amongst other things) from a vitamin D deficiency.
Worth getting checked as presuming you are in UK - most of us are deficient.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/10/2022 20:27

Not too young to be hitting the peri-menopause and itching is one of the symptoms.

HTruffle · 29/10/2022 20:29

I get more itchy when I’m dehydrated, could you be? Also it can definitely be related to hormonal changes.

hippoherostandinghere · 29/10/2022 20:35

Thanks everyone. It has got a bit better this week thankfully. It's not a pinprick feeling, more of a creeping feeling. Good chance I could be dehydrated and Vit D deficient. Im Dr adverse though so not sure what my next steps should be?
