Nursing strike

If you're a nurse are you going to strike? I think I will if it goes ahead.

People are very naive if they think its all about pay. Patients and staff are at risk every day because of the lack of registered nurses who work in unsafe conditions with unsafe non existent minimum staffing levels.

Another member of the public giving you my full support.

Nurses striking isn't about pay. It's about the forcing the government to invest properly in the profession to make sure there are enough nurses to keep you and me safe.
Patient care is massively compromised at the moment. Strikes won't make that worse - in fact, because of the way strikes are organised with essential services still running and nursing staff numbers properly calculated to keep patients safe, it'll likely improve patient care. Ironic isn't it?
Even the CQC came out yesterday and announced that the health and social care system is gridlocked and patients at risk due to a lack of staff. If government won't listen to regulators, public, staff, patients, employers etc - striking really is the only option left.

Spoke to a nurse friend yesterday. She's voted to strike. She doesn't work in a hospital now though.

100% yes and so will most of my colleagues

I agree that working to rule for even one day will most likely see an improvement in care. Managers will have to step up and senior nurses help on the wards, admin will have to answer the phones, doctors will have to arrange help to assist, management will see for themselves how sick patients really are and the level of skill and staffing levels needed to look after them. I wouldnt be at all surprised if tta and discharge letters, places found in community beds, day cases and clinics open for longer hours were all miracously arranged for the day before any strike action takes place.

I’ve voted to strike and will be doing so if it comes to it, as have all my colleagues. The NHS has run on goodwill for long enough and now we need real change to bring about positive changes for staff & patients, and if strike action is what’s needed to achieve those changes then so be it.
