I cant help you as googled some last week and didnt find much at all I think.
Though I was looking for more for adults than children.

I am just joining as I would like to know too!

'Any three things' - one player names two completely random objects - or you can use films, books, characters, tv progs etc. - the other (s) have to find three things they have in common (the more niche/contrived the better!).

Ardagusdubh · 21/10/2022 12:32

We sometimes play guess who. Someone picks a character then everyone asks yes/no type question until it's guessed correctly then that person picks a character. Started when kids were very young and still going now, eldest is 12. Has to be from film/tv/book that everyone knows. This has passed many driving hours for us!

Sharralanda · 21/10/2022 12:34

Spotting Eddie Stobart lorries and their names. Point for the spotter and point for the name.

phonehomebunny · 21/10/2022 12:34

Would you rather:
Be a giant chicken or a tiny elephant
Have fingers for toes/toes for fingers
Live in space/under the sea

My children love a game of "Would you rather", on car journeys, and always ends up with lots of laughs 😂

NoSquirrels · 21/10/2022 12:35

My DC’s favourite was invented by their grandfather - it’s the Roadkill Game, whereby you get different points for different dead animals. They also enjoy being the first to spot Premier Inns. I appreciate neither of these suggestions are likely to thrill you!

One we all enjoy is “What animal am I imagining?” where everyone takes turns to ask 1 yes or no answer (“Is it extinct?” or “Does it have four legs?” or “Does it live in a rainforest/the sea/the desert” etc)

They’re absolutely useless at Eye Spy and anyway I hate it!

Usually I get an audiobook we’ll all enjoy and then you can just ignore them!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/10/2022 12:36

We used to do 'cars for pocket money' it was excellent. I am 53 nearly and still see a rolls Royce as 50p 🤣

Red cars are a penny, blue cars are 2 pence etc.

AnApparitionQuipped · 21/10/2022 12:43

Two truths and a lie - you make three statements, two true, one false and the others have to spot the falsehoods.

For adults this is most entertaining when the statements are about you (and you unearth quirky, unlikely-sounding facts from your past) but to accommodate children who don't have a cupboard full of skeletons, you could expand it to include facts in general or from their favourite games/TV shows.

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2022 12:44

One child counts Eddies, the other counts Norberts.

Bingo: get them to draw pics of what you can see on car journeys, tick off as you find them. DS age 5 made these, and he still has them age 11. They include: double lorry (lorry pulling trailer), car+caravan , tunnel, train, bridge, river, windsock, electric turbine, farm animal, traffic cone, services, police car, yellow car, Lidl etc.

I also put sticky backed plastic on them so they're wipe clean and can be reused, no use to you if you're pushed for time!

I went shopping and I bought: 1 apple, 2 chairs, 3 pairs of trousers, 4 slices of bread, 5 dog treats, 6 planks of wood, 7 maths books.... Etc, see who can remember the most.

The Minister's Cat.

Guess that tune from the hum.

Replace a word in a song for an animal.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 21/10/2022 12:46

Yes No game

There are always the classics:

Word Association Game. Best to put some limits in place such as no more than two colours in a row, if you don't want your journey to become a chorus of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat'

The alphabet game - name a thing for each letter of the alphabet - bird, animal, name, place etc.

What's my line - similar to 'who am I' but you are guessing an imaginary job role.

Fifthtimelucky · 21/10/2022 12:47

We often used to play what we called the alphabet game.

Each player had to spot a written word beginning with the letter a, then b and so on. Words on other vehicles didn't count, so it had to be a road sign or a sign at the side of the road.

We always ignored the letter X but had to do Q and Z.

The driver has an advantage in some ways, because obviously they are constantly watching the road ahead, and is likely to know what place names might be coming up on signs, but not in other ways, because they can't turn round to see signs on the other side the road.

It was always good to get two consecutive letters together eg on a sign saying something like ´Reduce Speed Now´ or ´No Unauthorised Vehicles'

Only the first person to shout out the word could count it, but if the same word appeared on a different sign, someone else was allowed or use it.

AnApparitionQuipped · 21/10/2022 12:49

Make up a story in rotation one line at a time, or one word at time!

saleorbouy · 21/10/2022 13:03

The name game, You name a famous person or character and the next person has to think of the next starting with the first letter of the surname.

Liz Truss > Tom Hanks > Harry Styles > Simon Mayo> Mickey Mouse....

If you get same letter first and last name you change direction..... no repeat names.

ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar · 21/10/2022 13:21

The word game. Two words, that make a new word or short phrase. You can use and/in/on etc, & pluralise words, allow different spellings, etc, to make it easier. Especially if there are young kids. So, first person might say midnight. Then it could go:
Midnight oil
Oil lamp
Lamp post
Post box
Boxing ring
Ring of fire
Fire man
Mankind... etc, etc.

We play it on train journeys. If you get stuck on a word the previous person has to give the next answer, so it stops people giving really terrible words. And we usually say no names of people, or it gets repetitive.

Fuckallthetories · 21/10/2022 13:41

mini cheddars!
basically you look out for minis and say they’re name (as below) and you get points. If you holler mini cheddar! Then you get more points. I’ll explain:
normal mini (ie. None of the other cars below) 1 point
mini mozzarella (white or cream coloured) 5 points
mini Red Leicester (orangey red colour) 5 points
mini cheddar (yellow mini) 10 points
old mini cheddar (yellow mini but old) 15 points

then at the end of the journey/ hour you count up the points and whoever wins gets pride and joy Grin

rules:
can’t say one that you saw 5 minutes ago but forgot
cant say the same one as another person

windowwhy · 21/10/2022 13:43

Virtual hide and seek

You think of a place you're hiding in your house and the others have to ask yes or no questions until they can guess where you are!

Fuckallthetories · 21/10/2022 13:45

And a game where you start of with something (John went down to the shops and bought…..) then add something (John went down to the shops and bought 10 apples etc.) and keep adding things about you can’t say something that’s already been said. Some funny ones we’ve had have been:
Laura went to boots the chemist and bought, mummy’s special tissues (sanitary towels!!!), daddy’s balloons ( condoms!!), my carrot poofs and the icing sugar mummy puts on my bum. GrinBlush

changer121 · 21/10/2022 21:13

We used to play the alphabet game - choose a topic ( countries, girls names etc) and one person starts at A and it goes round everyone until you get to z.

The lorry game - everyone chooses a company and spots and keeps count of the number of lorries for their chosen company spotted on the journey and the person with the most wins.
( sainsburys were often top 😉)
