L'Or or Nespresso

Hi,
I've just got an all singing and dancing pod coffee machine- Phillips L'Or.

Any advice on what pods to use? It says Nespresso compatible.

I'm finding the coffee a bit metalic/watery and wonder whether I need to go for a different pod.

I'd like to try the refillable ones- though aluminium are ok for recycling I think. I use a lot of coffee!

Anyone want to chat about their adventures with pods?

My husband Iikes the L'Or Profundo pods. I like the Nespresso Arpeggio. Which pods have you tried as they are all quite different in taste?

The ones that came free! It's not easy to see what they are, to be honest. I'm keeping a note of the colour and any associated words on them!

I usually drink it by the mug, so I'm mainly looking for a long, strong drink.

Oh I just got this machine. I use illy pods as they're my favourite, and compatible. Lavazza do compatible pods. I only really drink Italian coffee!

Itsybitsytitsy · 20/10/2022 08:04

For a mug, I use 2 pods to make it strong enough

picklemewalnuts · 20/10/2022 08:15

Oh gosh! That's a thought. Is that two big pods, Itsy, or two little ones?

I'll look out for Illy and Lavazza.

I usually drink fair trade decaf, made strong, so really need to up my knowledge!

I don't know whether the capsules are compatible with your machine but we have a Nespresso Vertuo machine and you can buy capsules according to the size of coffee you want, for example, mug size, espresso size, etc. I tried their decaf range and I rate the Fortado decaf capsule, it's a great coffee.

The vertuo aren't compatible unfortunately.

I"ve got a Breville Nespresso machine and I find the Nespresso brand pods are quite bitter tasting, whatever the type/variant is. I'm now trying Nescafe Farmers Origins, which have a much more rounded pleasant flavour.

The capsules/pods are the 'Original' shape, not Vertuo.

I always use two pods Grin

wibblewobbleball · 20/10/2022 09:19

Just FYI you can run a pod through twice on espresso setting for a double shot coffee.

AtomicBlondeRose · 20/10/2022 09:21

One pod (Nespresso or L’Or) isn’t really enough for a long mug of coffee. Two is much better. I buy 10 boxes of L’Or pods (10/11 strength) at a time from Amazon which works out not too expensive. Using two pods at a time does add up though. I switched from a mug to a cup, just topping up a little with hot water. Still tasty! I prefer my Tassimo for a mug full - they do Americano Grande pods which are lovely.

I've got a Nespresso and find their ownpods are the better ones if you want strong gutsy coffee, their limited editions are good to try. There are good tasting notes on each pod. The Starbucks ones tend to be very bitter and over roasted to me.

I'm going through a load of pods from Hotel Chocolat - they're really good and absolutely no bitterness at all to them. Really good breakfast coffee and you can buy in large packs.

Really helpful comments, thank you all.

I'll get a few and work my way through, knowing now that one pod isn't going to cut it!

I think I'll save it for my first cup, which is caffeinated. I use a stove top mocha pot at the moment, and it regularly spills or bites my fingers. It's a hazard, according to DH!
The 'decaf by the gallonk will need to be from the filter pot, I think.
