Strange question re sitting - seem to sit on base of spine - anyone else?

For a very long time now I've been aware that it's extremely difficult for me to sit on my bottom - on my arse cheeks, as presumably we're meant to. When I sit, I have to really adjust myself to sit on my bottom, otherwise it feels more like I'm sitting on the base my back/spine. I have to keep adjusting myself otherwise it's really uncomfortable. I'm better on a hard chair, but on the sofa it's literally impossible for me to sit on my bum unless I'm leaning forward at a ridiculous angle.

I do have some collapsed discs in my back (which generally don't cause too much of a problem) and I also have mild scoliosis, recently diagnosed. It also states 'moderate spondylosis' on the MRI report.

Does anyone else have this problem? It's not my posture as such, as in, not a lack of attention to posture. I don't slump. I'm always doing what we're told in yoga class - sit on your sitting bones! Or trying to.....

If anyone has any tips on what I can do, that'd be great. It'd be great if anyone knew what I was on about!

I think I know what you mean and do have scoliosis. I find lifting weights helps a lot.

Thanks @KitchenSupper - I go to the gym and and am just building up again after having covid a few months ago. Are there any weight exercises in particular you find helpful?

I do the whole body working up. It’s worth getting a session to learn how to use the machines. Swimming is also very helpful, I forgot to mention it before.

I think I have a low tail bone. I’m worse on hard chairs. I once had to sit on a wooden dining table chair for 6 hours and it felt like I’d bruised the bottom of my spine. I couldn’t sit down properly for days. I’d assumed it was normal for some people?!

@KitchenSupper - thanks, I try to do all muscle groups, using machines and free weights. Am a bit limited as I have ME (chronic fatigue) but I do as much as I can. It's particularly strange as my bottom is not exactly tiny - plenty to sit on if only it would position itself correctly!

@Chunkymonkey123 - that sounds painful! I have to keep shifting position, but am more able to keep buttocks correctly placed on a firm chair - on soft seating I tend to roll down until the base of my spine is bearing the brunt of the sitting.

My mother had a similar problem. She had a cushion with a hole at the back where her coccyx was so that there was no pressure on her spine.

It might be worth looking out for something similar.
