Nhs veneers

Quite a specific topic but has anyone any experience with nhs veneers?

I’ve been referred and just received my consultation appointment for nhs veneers on my front teeth. I’ve been told they will be porcelain.

when I google, all I can find is info on private veneers. So thought I’d try on here for anyones experience.

TIA

Surprised they're covered, are you 100% sure they're NHS? NHS dentists can refer to private cosmetic dentists so might be worth checking!

I’ve got veneers, through NHS but they were still more then £200 each. I’ve had mine for 16 years, one snapped a while ago because I ate a snickers out the fridge

Absolutely sure.

they aren’t for cosmetic reasons. Nhs will cover if there’s a clinical need, not for cosmetic.

I’ve been quoted £300 total for them on nhs. Will double check it though.

did you have any trouble getting the one that snapped fixed on the nhs? Or did you have to have it fixed privately?

Hmmm I can’t quite remember because my dentist was private but also did nhs, I think he did repair it on NHS rate for me but it was a long time ago (maybe 10 years) and he was so lovely. How many are you having? I only had 3, I think they were £200+ each rather than all together.

My friend had veneers on the nhs and has not long had one replaced.

Porcelain veneers on the NHS have a guarantee of 12 months.

I worked in both NHS and private dental. There isn't much difference and what you see about a private veneer will apply to the NHS too. The same of very similar material is used. They are processed in the same way.

I had a badly discoloured front tooth (a problem with enamel from antibiotics as a child) and was thrilled when they said I could have a veneer on NHS.
I hadn’t realised they had to actually shorten your tooth and I had to go away with half a tooth for a couple of weeks while they made the new one. She was asking my advice re colour matching and, I guess unsurprisingly, I erred towards a lighter shade which didn’t really match.
it lasted more than 10 years and would have lasted longer but I decided to have it replaced privately. This slime the colour is permanent and they fitted me with a temporary veneer while waiting for the real one. I think it was around £600 which was less than I thought

*this time the colour is a good match!

I had a similar experience 😂

I had one veneer as a teenager on the NHS, it snapped when I was biting into something, might have been an apple, I can’t remember now. Anyway went back and had it put back on and it snapped off again when biting into something else. My experience with veneers is they look pretty but if you intent to use your teeth to eat with they don’t seem practical. That’s why the celebrities are all so skinny.

I now have a crown, it doesn’t look as flawless as a veneer but I have bitten into countless apples since and it’s never popped off.

Aww no :(
Must say mine have lasted very well since that incident and I’ve bitten into many an apple, and chocolate out the fridge actually - just not a snickers!!
