What's the craziest thing you've done while trying to hold a baby?

Absolutely ashamed of this but I stupidly decided to start breastfeeding DD at 4am while desperately needing the toilet. After 10 mins of holding it in, I couldn't hold it any longer and waddled to the toilet and had a wee, all while trying to keep DD firmly attached to my boob!

Has anyone ever done this before or anything equally as crazy while trying to hold a baby? Grin

I was holding DD (13 months) because she absolutely could not be put down (god knows why!) while cooking her dinner (spaghetti bolognas) and having contractions in early labour with DS! 😂 DH face was a picture when he got home! 🤣

DD is five and still thinks she should be carried around the house. My waters had broken and I was still carrying her up and down the stairs 😅

LoveBluey · 18/10/2022 21:23

First time round not too much but with DD2 I fed her while cooking dinner, making snacks, helping DD1 put on shoes etc etc

sageandbasil · 18/10/2022 21:25

Yoga, exercise class, cooking.... I did everything with DD attached to my boob and now at 10.5 months she's got the audacity to refuse my boobs 😭

MuggleMe · 18/10/2022 21:26

I remember meeting Santa while bf one year.

squeakyheart · 18/10/2022 21:32

Showing four year old how to cut mitres on architrave whilst breastfeeding 14 month old. No idea what I was thinking.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2022 21:36

Looking after my tiny nephew. Think he was about six months old and hadn't been sleeping so my sister was in her knees. Had a deadline for a uni assignment so sat on the sofa with him in one arm, typing with my other hand 😂

Little bugger slept lovely 😂

Hexenjagd · 18/10/2022 21:38

The low point was bf whilst simultaneously shitting and puking my guts out with norovirus (confirmed case, we caught it on a cruise holiday and caused a minor public health incident) whilst having a blazing row, with DH about my in-laws and their behaviour on said holiday.

never.ever. Again. (The Cruise, the in-laws and the holiday with 2mo baby)

RhubarbFairy · 18/10/2022 21:39

Paddled in the river with DS1 whilst DS2 was feeding in the sling.

To be fair, DS2 refused to be put down EVER so I did most things with him strapped to either my back or front (I loved my long wrap slings) including climbing all over this and across the bridges at the top (actually very safe). I've got a photo of us on the top with him grinning cheekily out from over my shoulder (he was about 3 at the time).

I mowed the lawn while holding my baby. It was a push mower and I sat her on one hip and pushed the mower with the other hand. She was a big crier if she was put down, so it seemed the best way to get anything done.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 18/10/2022 21:52

I didn’t even breastfeed and I’ve done this. Dd went through a phase of screaming if she was put down as a newborn so she was carried everywhere or put in the sling. I think most people have had a wee holding their baby.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 18/10/2022 22:00

I've done CPR with baby in a sling

Squirrelvillage · 18/10/2022 22:07

Walking around Waitrose, though it wasn't that crazy, I was in a hurry.

Byfleet · 18/10/2022 22:20

@DuesToTheDirt
I breast fed both of mine while mowing the lawn too! We have an old fashioned push along mower (why doesn’t everyone have these to save the expense and faff of sn electric one?).

Of course I also often went to the toilet, hoovered, cooked meals, tidied etc while breastfeeding. I’m not superwoman. I’m sure we’ve all done it!

What I find interesting and inexplicable is comparing the reality of breast feeding with how I was instructed to do it. I remember the NCT classes and the breastfeeding counsellor I saw after getting mastitis. The instructions seemed to consist of quite complicated positioning involving chairs with very specific heights and dimensions, props and cushions for my feet and lap and finely tuning the position of my arms, hands and the baby. Not to mention creams, pads, special bras, nipple shields etc. Except that within weeks I was just tucking them under my arms and walking around doing any number of jobs around the house while they sucked away. No special equipment. It doesn’t add up really.

HighlandPony · 18/10/2022 22:34

That’s quite normal. I’ve grabbed a horse and dragged him along the road by a headcollar today whilst holding my youngest (13 weeks) today because the arse jumped out the field when he saw me at the caravan and the fence wasn’t on. There wasn’t really another option. Have him run about a 60mph road loose or lie her down at the side of a 60mph road with no path wasn’t going to do it.

RagingWoke · 18/10/2022 22:40

Everything I did for a year... ds was a velcro baby and didn't most of his time in a sling, usually feeding. Toilet, shower, bath, cleaning, cooking, shopping- we got pretty good at feeding in the sling because dc1 still needed to be taken to school/activities and life gets hectic with 2!
I went back to work when ds was 9 months, mid-lockdown world so wfh and did a lot of teams meetings with a bfing baby just out of camera. Occasionally his little hand would appear just to let everyone know I had a boob out 😬

mswales · 18/10/2022 22:45

I've fed my baby while weeing, while queuing up on the street for fish and chips and while making a comment at a full team away day at work.... just a few I can think of! I've also held her while chopping a cucumber for my older one which I didn't think would be possible safely but it was!

Icannoteven · 18/10/2022 22:45

Gotten a root canal.

I bit down hard on the gas and air mouth piece while in labour and completely shattered the root of a tooth. Absolute agony.

5 days post birth there I am getting a root canal with a cluster feeding bab who decides to start screaming the place down half way through.

I'm surprised the dentist allowed it but she was great. She had recently breastfed her own and even helped my baby latch on, since I was tilted too far back to see what I was doing 🤣. Best dentist I ever had.

Arcticlife · 18/10/2022 22:47

Bfing baby in the carrier whilst dog sledding with toddler sitting in the front of the sled. 😂

PinkDaffodil2 · 18/10/2022 22:51

I don’t think that’s so unusual! I travelled, got on and off buses with DD still feeding when she was little, and once answered the door to a delivery which needed signing for - she was covered in a muslin, I’m not sure if the delivery guy realised what was going on.
I’ve also fed while suffering with D&V, ended up passing out while she fed - at least in bed by then.

PinkDaffodil2 · 18/10/2022 22:52

I think I was breast feeding while having a blood test for some reason or other.

Walked around Hampton Court with dd2 in a sling breastfeeding. No one knew.

Yes to the toilet / BF combo.

I was part of a breastfeeding flash mob in Paddington station in 2011. That was fun.

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2022 23:04

Oh OP I found middle of the night breastfeeding acted like a laxative! Often ended up on the loo with my baby attached.

Beachcomber · 18/10/2022 23:07

I've haggled over the price of a Tunisian rug whilst breastfeeding / holding a baby.

Have also pedaloed on Lake Geneva. 😁
