Caravan stay at Butlins

We couldn’t afford a ‘real’ Butlins stay so we’ve booked for the adjacent caravan park for a week with the kids for ‘Spooktacular’ (says it’s linked by a tunnel from caravan park to Butlins resort).

Have we made a huge mistake? We do have passes to go into Butlins resort daily but we’ve realised we can’t book any activities and they’re all fully booked so worried our children won’t actually be able to do or see anything other than walk around the grounds and maybe go swimming and the fair.

We’ve never been before so not sure how it works.

How old are they? We went last year, the only bookable thing we did was one panto type show which they could have lived without!

Skegness?

We stayed in a private caravan on the adjacent park, which was lovely, and it is indeed through a short tunnel that gives access through the arcade.

Your pass gives you access to everything. Pool, entertainment, beach etc.

For info, we were in the pool every day, did crazy golf, fairground, bowling. One if the open to all evening disco things. It was plenty. There's a "treasure trail" type thing to find various Halloween themed pictures around the place.

Mistywindow · 18/10/2022 19:24

The bookable things are the bigger shows and paid for activities. There’s loads to do without booking. My kids are happy with the swimming, fairground and the skyline gang.

Soubriquet · 18/10/2022 19:24

The caravans are perfectly fine and the park is easily accessible. You have access to everything

BendingSpoons · 18/10/2022 19:28

You can often still get into the shows even if they are fully booked as people don't turn up. Even when we stayed on site, some activities booked up really quickly before we had a chance to book. The pool and the funfair were the main focus for us.

Ah phew!! Thank you so much for replying! Yes, sorry should’ve mentioned, Skegness.

Ah I can breathe again (thanks Adam Rickitt).. was so worried I’ve gone and ruined the break by cheaping out 😅

You'll have a fabulous time at Butlins without pre booked activities. We've never booked in advance just go to the booking hub on site and there's usually spaces at some time. Also like a previous poster said there's always no shows for the bookable shows so you can get a space.
The pool and fairground take up.lots of time as well.
Not sure about Skegness but skyline gang show is not bookable at Bognor and its a must see (especially the Halloween one) where my kids are concerned, they've watched them twice in 1 night and every other night as well sometimes.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/10/2022 19:36

i am sure there are shows going on without needing to be booked
and there is the swimming

Youredaft · 18/10/2022 19:41

Ah ok.. I see, so there’s some thing you can book and other things that you can just turn up to, I didn’t realise this, at first I just thought everything was a turn up on the day deal, then I panicked when I heard everything’s been booked up.. including Stephen mulhern which will break my LO’s heart, she’s got his book, practicing his tricks, watching old ‘in for a penny’s’ 😅

Also.. do you recommend bringing Halloween costumes.. even for adults?

6yo and 2, 2 and under (fun! 😬)

In skegness once through the first arcade there's a massive raised bit where you can sit and eat or watch the kids stage shows during the day. This is surrounded by shops, food places etc. You don't pay extra to watch the shows.

They had the celebrity evening shows in the separate theatre but we had to queue to get in. (2 bloody hours to watch Diversity!) So if the show is at 7 have your tea early and get in line.

The circus was well worth a watch too if open.

@SpacePotato 2 hours?? My god, we can’t wait that long with babies 😞 oh we’ll be gutted if we miss Stephen mulhern but we can’t que that long. Thank you for the heads up!
