£340!! What the hell? Are people going to pay these prices?
My DD does a couple of uk festivals every year, and has been to Glastonbury a couple of years ago, but has decided to go to primevara in Barcelona instead next year because of the cost.
Crazy! I could get a flight to anew York for that money.

I'm a recycler of 8 years standing so go every year for "free" part from the work that we do. It's still amazing value even at that price there is nothing to touch it at all. Rich folk can buy backdoor tickets and pay 5-7k for a package that gets them some luxury and a guaranteed ticket.

It truly is the Greatest Show on Earth and then some.

Fair enough. If I see live music it’s in small venues, with low ticket prices. I personally hate any large corporate festivals like Glastonbury.

I had no idea that under 12’s were free. I can see how that would attract families!

I remember my DD being successful the third year she tried to get tickets, so not an easy feat!
Good luck to anyone trying to get tickets!

It's not corporate, there is no branding anywhere and the profit goes to Oxfam, Water Aid and Greenpeace. Michael Eavis last time I looked takes a salary of 50k though Emily is the effective CEO these days. That said Orange paid £ 5 million for a huge unbranded pavilion (though very orange) and I once had a chat with the unbranded single tobacco kiosk in Shangri La - they paid £ 6 million for an exclusive 5-year contract. You can also take in your own food and drink without limit. Of the 240 k attendees around 80k are volunteers and staff.

Holidayexpert · 18/10/2022 13:52

@MrsTimRiggins That’s the one! They love it, and tag on a few days holiday as well!
Much cheaper, international acts and less of the idiots, according to her!

Primavera tickets might be cheaper but the beer and food costs the same as a uk festival - they don’t even let you bring in your own water in- also it’s a massive corporate festival - sponsorship everywhere - usually just one type of beer available (Heineken last time I was there unfortunately) only other option was a Smirnoff cocktails stall (cocktails were at least a tenner)

at Glastonbury I spent very little money this year as had my own alcohol and breakfast snacks with me - so I only paid for food maybe once or twice a day.

Tipsyturvychocolatemonster · 18/10/2022 21:59

I actually think that’s very cheap for what it is.🤷🏻‍♀️

Lj8893 · 18/10/2022 22:04

Yes it’s pricey not but I’ll still pay it.

I get really infuriated by people having opinions about something they have never been to or done.

IntentionalError · 18/10/2022 22:06

Given how over-subscribed they are, I’m sure they could charge significantly more, eg £495 and still sell out easily.

Kendodd · 18/10/2022 22:16

I think Glastonbury is good value, as life should be.

My kid wanted Black Pink tickets, ticket prices were between £371 and £650! And have you seen that thread about Taylor Swift and £800 ticket fears? Artists are taking the piss. Fans should go on ticket strike. I think part of the problem is that bands like Black Pink are first and foremost businesses with the main aim, making money.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2022 22:27

Glastonbury is amazing and it's worth a lot of money but £340 is mad. Although we go to Moseley folk festival which is no camping and that's over £150.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2022 22:30

And as other posters have pointed out you can take your own drink. I don't drink and couldn't take any alcohol free beer into ynot festival so was faced with extortionate prices for a bit of pop

Redrry · 18/10/2022 22:39

How is it mad? It's the best festival on earth! They could charge tons more and it would still sell out in minutes. Worth every penny.

AriettyHomily · 18/10/2022 23:23

£340 for five nights and how many gigs? It's cheap!

Beezknees · 19/10/2022 06:04

I've always thought Glastonbury was overrated, but I'm not keen on a lot of the most recent bands that have played. Plus camping is grim.

drpet49 · 19/10/2022 06:16

Heyahun · 18/10/2022 10:52

I mean people pay 150 plus to go to a single concert in the o2 or whatever - Glastonbury is 5 days long with so
much more.

This. It’s actually cheap when you think about it.

user175438765 · 19/10/2022 06:18

I'm more shocked that DS has been able to get a ticket every year it has been on for about the last 12 years, though about 3 of those he worked there so got a free pass. It's his 30th soon so we could pay for it for his birthday, at least it will be something he really enjoys. I think when I went in 1984 it was £13

user1497787065 · 19/10/2022 06:39

I can't imagine paying that much for a ticket with no guarantees as to who you may see.

TowerblocksAndSunflowers · 19/10/2022 06:50

You can easily pay £75 to see a major band in a one-off concert. For the amount of entertainment laid on at Glasto, I don't think £340 is unfair.
Plus Glastonbury is not like any other festival in terms of size and infrastructure. It's the size of a medium sized town!
And, as PPs have said, there are thousands and thousands of people desperature to secure tickets at that price, so clearly they don't agree with you either.

balalake · 19/10/2022 06:53

The charitable donation should be known at the time you book, and the amount that really goes to the ticket agency, if not declared thus far.

In my opinion it has long moved from its original nature and vibe.

megletthesecond · 19/10/2022 06:57

I think that's good value.

You're paying to build a large town with all the necessary facilities in the middle of nowhere for 5 days and hundreds of performers to travel and entertain you.

ThisIsArcadia · 19/10/2022 07:04

It’s absolutely outrageous no one should bother trying to get a ticket at that cost, they should all go elsewhere to events that are much better value for money! (And leave more tickets for me to try and get🤞🤞🤞)

gogohmm · 19/10/2022 07:37

I'm surprised they aren't more, small festivals cost £300, our local one costs £240 PLUS camping! Only 2 stages. Glastonbury is a bargain

I would pay more than that if I had too….happy to pay it this year as I bagged my tickets yesterday

If I never saw a single band on one of the main stages , I would still have an amazing town….glastonbury is so much more than the main stages….I couldn’t give a flying fuck about the line up….I will still be there next year regardless

Heyahun · 12/11/2022 16:14

The line up really doesn’t matter tbh I never even bother with the pyramid stage. The night time stuff is more my jam - the djs at Arcadia and the after hours stuff down in block 9 is insane and so much fun.

the bit you see on tv is such a small part of the festival it’s absolutely massive and there’s so much stuff to do besides see a massive famous band on the main stages.

As a litter picker I've done the morning shift inside NYC DownLow - what I saw inside and found would shock you.....dark rooms and mazes and glory holes in Glastonbury who would have thought.
