My rings are stuck on my fingers...

I had them resized about 8 years ago but have put on weight and now they won't come off. They don't cause pain but how worried should I be about this?

Fairy liquid.
Ice.

MermaidEyes · 18/10/2022 09:50

I second lots of soap or washing up liquid. If/when you manage to get them off, perhaps consider wearing them on a chain around your neck instead?

As long as they are comfortable it shouldn't be a problem. Ultimately they could be cut off easily enough.

Joystir59 · 18/10/2022 09:57

Lose weight and they will come off. That's what I did.

grey12 · 18/10/2022 09:59

String apparently is the way to do it

Just keep winding kind of tightly around your finger and the ring should be able to be pulled over it. Search on YouTube

LemonsAndCherries · 18/10/2022 10:02

Happened to me when I was pregnant. I had to have them cut off in the end but try going to a good jewellery shop. They had a lot of ideas and even a device that they tried very hard with before cutting them off!

Rina66 · 18/10/2022 10:05

The string thing works, I did it with sewing cotton, I'd tried everything else

youlightupmyday · 18/10/2022 10:08

I'd take them off. Iced water, the warm water with loads of fairy liquid

This is goal I guess
Wonder how long that takes. I wonder where on the order of places the body loses fat Fingers comes...

Thanks for all your help...
reluctant to leave off as wedding/engagement rings: would feel odd not having them there

Will talk to jeweller too

I haven't been able to get my engagement and wedding rings off for about 3 years. I'm not bothered. As a child I remember my mum not being able to get hers off either and it never caused her any problems. My finger has normal colour and movement so the blood flow seems to be working normally.

LeMoo · 18/10/2022 10:22

Unless your weight is increasing, I wouldn't worry too much. If your weight is stable and they're not doing any harm then they will continue to not do any harm. If you're able to lose a little then that will obviously help. I've found my fingers do increase I'm size a little when I gain a bit but they seem to reduce fairly easily too.

If your digits have just got really muscular then you're better off having them resized once removed!

ImAvingOops · 18/10/2022 10:24

When you wear rings for a very long time they make grooves on your finger, so they fit where they are sitting and won't be cutting off your blood supply or anything.

I think you do lose weight off your fingers quite quickly when you diet. I notice my rings feel tight or loose very quickly depending on where I am diet wise.

If you are worried though, I'd try making my hands really cold and then using soap to get them off. Your hands might shrink a bit in the winter anyway.

adjsavedmylife · 18/10/2022 10:24

I had this. Windolene / glass cleaner helped me get them off. Saw it on here! Twist, don’t pull. Keep your finger slightly curled rather than dead straight.

Cornettoninja · 18/10/2022 10:28

If you’re going to try one of the methods here I’d recommend holding your hand above your head for a good ten minutes too. Helps to drain your hand and slightly reduce the size of your fingers

Season0fTheWitch · 18/10/2022 10:32

My rings are on permanently too, I went from a size 2 to size 6 and now my fingers are too big to get them off. They don't do any harm, they can be twisted and wiggled up and down but can't get past my knuckles. The only potential issue is if your hands got swollen like mine did in pregnancy, and they can't come off.

thesugarbumfairy · 18/10/2022 10:39

I had mine cut off before an MRI. They weren't hurting or anything as my fingers had adjusted in the place they were sitting, however my fingers above the rings were just too fat for any other method to work. The jeweller didn't charge me anything. When I had them cut off I was 5 stones more than when they went on.
Its been three years now and I don't miss wearing my rings but they could be resized if I was bothered.

HouseBook · 18/10/2022 10:45

I would do everything I could to get them off now before it becomes an emergency.

thelobsterquadrille · 18/10/2022 10:47

Mine have been like this for ages - they're not hurting so I've just left it 🤷🏻‍♀️

TwoShades1 · 18/10/2022 10:54

If they are currently comfortable it’s probably fine. I guess it depends on if you plan to lose weight or not? If you’re not planning to change your weight, would you prefer them resized to fit your current fingers? If so there are lots of methods online for removing stuck rings so worth giving them all a shot before you have them cut off. The risk with leaving them on is if you put on further weight they may become too tight and you won’t be able to remove them unless they are cut.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/10/2022 11:04

The string trick is clever. Give that a go before having them cut off!

I find flat elastic works better than string. The stuff that's about a quarter inch wide. You're basically just pushing the finger fat to one side while it slowly slides off.

fleurdelee · 18/10/2022 22:54

Wow thanks all for the replies. Can a jeweller make them bigger again easily?
I feel stupid for having them resized but I was skinnier before and the engagement ring would try to fall off when cold Hmm
