Secondhand baby clothes - was at 60° or 90° ?

I've gone on a vinted buying spree for baby clothes, I can't decide whether to wash them at 60° or 90° when they arrive. What would you do? Thanks!

40?

You’ll wreck them at 90 or 60. They don’t need boiling.

saveforthat · 17/10/2022 20:03

Not 90. Likely they wouldn't survive. What temperature do you usually wash clothes at. I'd do 40.

Castaspell · 17/10/2022 20:03

You'll ruin them at 60° let alone 90°. You could use something like the Dettol laundry cleanser you can add to the wash if you're really that worried about it.

🤨 you will ruin them, wash at 40

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/10/2022 20:09

30 or 40 at a push. Any higher and you’ll wreck the clothes

what are you worried about? You can get some washing powder with antibacterial stuff in I think if that would reassure you.

pbdr · 17/10/2022 20:09

Unless you have reason to believe they are caked with Ebola then I'm sure a normal 40C wash will do fine

Jxtina86 · 17/10/2022 20:10

30 or 40. No need to boil them - they'll shrink!

fleurdelee · 17/10/2022 20:12

Buy some dettol
Laundry cleaner

Eileen101 · 17/10/2022 20:14

You'll ruin them!
40 degrees with laundry cleanser if you're really worried? 😐

Marshmallow12345 · 17/10/2022 20:15

Thank you!! My washing machine's eco setting is 40° so I just do everything at that. I've seen people on here talk about doing a 'boil wash' which is what made me wonder if I should use a higher setting. They're for a newborn so obviously want to be careful.

  1. No need to be careful. 40 max.
MinervaTerrathorn · 17/10/2022 21:02

30?

Rutland2022 · 17/10/2022 21:05

30/40 here. I saved 60 only for things covered in shit once baby was born!

MinervaTerrathorn · 17/10/2022 21:07

I actually didn't rewash clothes from friends, only ones I'd bought.

Mum2jenny · 17/10/2022 21:08

40 and add napisan if worried about potential germs

MinervaTerrathorn · 17/10/2022 21:09

I'd wash them more than once for a newborn if they smelt like detergent or softener

Lcb123 · 17/10/2022 21:10

40 is plenty. I don’t know what you think you can get from clothes!

DoughNutBabe · 17/10/2022 21:14

Iron them after washing x

OldEvilOwl · 18/10/2022 16:08

40 is fine

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 18/10/2022 16:11

The only things I washed above 30c were cloth nappies which I did a full strip & sanitise on following The Nappy Lady’s method I think it was.
