Just thinking that DD needs to go earlier. She goes around 7/7.30pm

OP posts:
VanillaImpulse · 17/10/2022 00:01

8-8.30

Queuesarasarah · 17/10/2022 00:02

7pm, bedtime story etc, then in bed at 7.30pm, usually asleep by 8pm

LBOCS2 · 17/10/2022 00:25

8/8.30. She resists at 8 but is definitely tired by 8.30 and almost always asleep by 9, whether it's in bed or (as happened this weekend) on the sofa because she was desperate to stay up with all the grown ups.

My 4 year old DD goes at 7 and is asleep by 7.30. She’s awake around 5.30 full of beans so doesn’t need an earlier bedtime. I’ve tried putting her to bed later but she’s still up at 5.30. How is your DD when she wakes up? Does she wake easily or seem tired when she gets up?

WithABiffBangPow · 17/10/2022 06:08

My 5yr old goes somewhere between 6.30 and 7 and is sound asleep about 4 seconds after.
Boy loves his bedtime.

Almost 6 year old, bath around 6, books and cup of milk 6:15/6:30, lights out 7. We aren't super strict about it, if he isn't tired, he can stay up but he only ever makes it to 7:30! He is up usually around 6:30/7 which is perfect for us as we use breakfast club most days so we can get to work

HighlandPony · 17/10/2022 06:32

Depends when she needs to be up and how much of a sleeper she is. At 5they need around 9-11 hours sleep recommended. Mine have always gone at ten half ten ish but we’re not up till 8 at the earliest so that’s still nine and a half to ten hours.

Mine had clubs on a lot later than that at age 5. If it’s working for you then don’t worry about what others think

Throughabushbackwards · 17/10/2022 06:41

Upstairs 7:30/8, asleep by 8:30/9 and wakes at 7/7:30.

sittingonacornflake · 17/10/2022 06:43

I guess it all depends on what time they have to get up in the morning.

Cupcakegirl13 · 17/10/2022 06:45

Story 6.30pm , lights off at 7pm here.

NamelessNinja · 17/10/2022 06:48

Aim for in bed at 7 here and he's generally asleep within minutes, always asleep by 7.30 and wakes between 6-7.

RudsyFarmer · 17/10/2022 06:54

VanillaImpulse · 17/10/2022 00:01

8-8.30

Same. Although the bedtime routine starts at 7.30pm.

FlounderingFruitcake · 17/10/2022 06:58

Upstairs to bed at 7, but she can play in her room for as long as she likes. She puts herself to bed around 7.30, occasionally 8, but never later. She’s up for the day at 6.30.

Filleto · 17/10/2022 07:01

Between 7.30 and 8

Twotwotwotwo · 17/10/2022 07:07

Loving to see the other parents of night owls here - I don’t find them much in real life. Asleep at 8.45 here - bed at 8/8.15. Attempts to get it earlier haven’t worked. Just resulted in a long time awake in bed.

The bonus is that she loves a lie in at the weekend - Sundays are normally until 8ish before she wakes. Holidays are better though when she can settle into her natural body clock and not need to get up for school.

Whitewolf2 · 17/10/2022 07:07

What time does she need to be up for school OP and what time is she asleep by?
Our standard for 5 yr old is to start bedtime between 7-7.30, asleep by 8.
Then up in the morning by 7, but often awake around 6.30.
If they seem tired though we start bedtime before 7.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 17/10/2022 07:16

Into bed at 7, yoto until 8. Often doesn’t fall asleep until close to 9. Has never needed masses of sleep.

Robostripes · 17/10/2022 07:18

DS 6.5 goes to bed at 7.30ish though it’s usually 8 by the time he’s had stories and called me back upstairs two or three times to find lost teddies, adjust the lighting, add/remove layers etc. He’s awake most days at 5.30 so I don’t like it to be much later otherwise he won’t get enough sleep. (And I don’t get enough of an adult evening!)

needthiswilderness · 17/10/2022 07:20

Start bedtime around 8 and he’s usually asleep 8:45-9. Wakes up 7-7:30. Tried earlier bedtime but it just ain’t happening. He never seems overly tired so I’ve accepted I have a low sleep needs child - about 10 hrs - just what everyone longs for 😜!

Devo1818 · 17/10/2022 07:30

In bed about 7

Puppers · 17/10/2022 07:30

They’re all individuals, just like adults. My 6 yr old needs a lot of sleep and doesn’t function well on less than 11.5 hours. We go up to bed about 6:45pm to start getting ready, and they’re asleep by 7:30pm. They’re up for school around 7-7:30am.

Its just trial and error really. Unless there are sleep issues going on (such as struggling to sleep due to anxiety, which does affect my DC for periods), it’s a matter of finding the sweet spot between it taking ages to get to sleep because they’re not tired enough, and being overtired (which can also present as an inability to get to sleep) and then balancing this against wake up times depending on how early you need to rise for school.

mavismorpoth · 17/10/2022 07:34

It's always been a general rule of bed time at 7:30 but she can have a movie on weekend nights, and 830 is latest as a rule, and she wakes about half 7 now she is in school.

Squashpocket · 17/10/2022 10:59

Bedtime at 8pm for 4 and 6 year old. 4 year old out like a light at 8:30pm, up at 6:30am. 6 year old asleep at 9-9:30 ish, up at 7:30am.

I wish they would get on the same schedule, but ones a night owl like his dad and ones a daybird like me.
