Kitten help please?

Have already posted this in the pet section but there's not much traffic over there sometimes so I'd appreciate a wider breadth of cat knowledge

Kitten is 9 months old. She's a Ragdoll and completely healthy.

Up until she was spayed, she had never once toileted outside of her litter tray. Since she was spayed a few months ago, it's a lot!

She will poo on the carpet. Doesn't have a specific spot. Carpet thoroughly cleaned with enzyme cleanser etc etc each time.

The poo is either Diarrhoea or very very soft.

However she will also poo in the little tray. There is no rhyme or reason to it but I'd say that generally it's 1-2 posts every day in various spots of the house. Other times, trots off to her litter tray no problem

She never wees outside the tray.

Tray always clean. Well, trays. She has a brother - we have 3 trays between them.

She's happy and healthy. I've been to vet several times. Poo tested and all fine. She's had antibiotics. She's had prebiotic paste. She has had several slow changes of food - currently on specialist biscuits and the smallest amount of 'untamed' cat food but I've been trialling cutting back on wet food

She has a lovely relationship with her brother. She's playful. She's not unwell.

So ... what is it? The very loose poo is something she's always had really but the doing it in my bloody carpet is only since being spayed. The vet had no answer for this though

Anything I've not thought of please? This poo ing in my carpet has been going in a couple of months now and it's disgusting

Like I said though, other times she will poo in the tray with no issue and always wees in there

Would love any thoughts

I wonder if something's happened to her bowel during the op and left her with faecal urgency.

Is she getting caught short and not making it to the tray in time?

How many litter trays do you have for your cats?

Horsemad · 16/10/2022 21:07

Sorry, I missed you have 3 trays.

@Horsemad no not being caught short as sometimes she will poo on the sofa I have which is close to her litter tray. It's an obvious choice but yes, sometimes it will drip out of her and she can't seem to help that.
Only sometimes though

That is something to consider - was her bowel nicked on the op?

And thank you!

It's possible I suppose, although unlikely you'll get an admission from the vet.

I'm not sure what could be done to sort it either. 🤨

No it's a puzzle. Of course the food is grain free and £££ and supposed to help very sensitive tummies etc so I just don't know what to think

Like I said, happy and playful and eating lots

Have you tried feeding some chicken for a few days to stabilise her stomach and then reintroducing the food in tiny amounts?

Try feeding hydrolysed feed in case it's due to an allergy. Royal Canin Hypoallergenic cat biscuits are one such feed. Mine has these as she was constantly vomiting and she's fine now.
