Cheapest way to do Legoland

We'd be travelling by train from the North West and would want to stay overnight somewhere. There's 3 of us-one adult and two children.

It would be next summer probably.

You'd probably need to stay two nights as that's a massive journey. Could you increase your budget and stay in London?

I'm sure someone will come up with a better idea, but you could get the train from London Waterloo to Wokingham with a Family and Friends discount that would cost 1 adult + 2 kids a total of £14.50 each way (current price of advance booking).

Wokingham railway station is very close to a brand new Premier Inn which has family rooms for about £68 a night, then you could pre-book get a taxi back to Legoland (I just check and it is about £25 and about 20 mins drive). Waterloo to Wokingham is 1 hr 8 minutes on the fastest trains.

As a bonus, the Premier Inn is near a park with a good playground; and there's a small Co-Op about 5 mins walk into town and the town centre has places you could eat dinner eg Nandos, cafes etc. You could head to the Co-op early and buy breakfast, drinks and picnic supplies (saves money in LL).

Just an idea. It may seem madness to overshoot so far West but otherwise it is London or Heathrow prices that is the problem.

Wait for the sun to do their free legoland tickets next year. Buy 9 papers to get codes to convert to 2 free tickets and then using tesco vouchers pay for the 3rd ticket. Slough is also quite close to Windsor so Premier Inn may be cheaper too.

We live close by, so visit Legoland quite regularly.

They've really invested in the park in the last couple of years and there's loads to see and do even on a quiet day. However, it's often not quiet, so you'd need a couple of full days there to really get the benefit.

If you know your school insets in advance you might be able to book a cheaper off peak hotel stay.

I lived in Maidenhead and Bray for about a year many many years ago so I'm fairly ok with the geography, just not the logistics of public transport. The taxi idea is good. I'd like to have a look round Windsor for old times sake and show the dc. Fond memories of margarita lime Haagen Dazs sorbet in the summer of 1999.
We have done here to Warwick Castle a few times and we aren't fazed by long journeys with changes. Going into London might be quicker though as it's only 2 hours and a bit from here to London.
We love a premier inn stop and would be happy with that although the Legoland hotels look great fun. Ds will be 8 and it's probably the perfect age to take him.
