Just wanted a rant really and maybe some sympathy… Currently on night shift with awful period cramps… Ibuprofen isn’t cutting it this month… Times like this it really sucks to be a woman😢

I was exactly like you, I take the pill back to back now so no more periods!
It's been life changing.

I’ve had mostly horrific period pain since 13 but now I’ve hit perimenopause the pain is reducing. I find that alternating ibuprofen with paracetamol every two hours seems to ‘mop up’ any residual pain that the ibuprofen doesn’t stop. It’s also very important to keep on a schedule with pain relief to stop the pain breaking through.

Also a hot water bottle and those stick-on disposable heat pads helps. Hot bath when you get home.

If nothing helps then perhaps see the pharmacist or your GP.

Ask the GP for mefenamic acid.

It really helps with the cramps and can also lighten periods if they are heavy.

Yeah I used to be bad as a teen with periods, like fainting from the pain. The GP was very dismissive though, at one point she actually advised me at 18 to get pregnant to help with the period pain 🤨… I think now I had endometriosis, I eventually ended up on the pill, and then on the implant which improved the pain, however had to come off the hormonal birth control as was getting other side effects from it. The pain is still better than it was, however every now and then I get a bad month.

Try combined Ibuprofen and Codeine tablets (I get Boots own, cheaper). Only thing that works for me.

Thanks, if it’s still bad next month I will make an appointment and ask for this 🙂

Never tried these, do they make you feel drowsy tho? @NooNakedJacuzziness

Ibuprofen Lysine. You can get it from any chemist or supermarket. Absolute gamechanger for period cramps. Take with a co codamol if needed.
Ive had horrific cramps, clots, back and leg pain my whole life. I bled so heavy i was anemic and needed several infusions a year. GP was never interested as i refused the mirena. Finally managed to get them to agree to hysterectomy as I had breast cancer and family history of womb cancer.
Woke up from op to be told i had stage 4 endo. It was so bad my entire pelvic cavity is fused, bowel and bladder so badly effected it will mean i will probably need a stoma and/or cathater at some point. My left ovary is no longer visable even with a internal camera. Cant operate because of this.
If i had been listened too earlier, this wouldnt have happened. Im in agony all the time, ive had to give up work and seek therapy. My consultant dropped the bomb on me and left, no explaination, treatment plan, nothing other than "See you in clinic in 12 weeks" My GP wont discuss it and just says I " Need to not think about what may or may not happen in the future".
Being a woman fucking sucks :(.

Whatoflife · 16/10/2022 14:37

If you think you had endometriosis then you still have endometriosis! Probably worth speaking to your gp again.

GoldenPineapple88 · 16/10/2022 14:51

Try Naproxen. I think it's ibuprofen based, but my god, it scares away the blood demons 😂

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/10/2022 14:55

@Chloefairydust - yes they do make you feel sleepy and a bit high. You're not meant to take them for more than 3 days and only 2 tablets every 6 hours, they're strong but effective. Hope you find something that works for you

Lol probably best not to take them when I’m at work then 😂…

@Redannie118 that sounds awful, bless you. Sounds much worse than what I get. I wonder why GP’s are so reluctant to diagnose conditions like endometriosis. I remember going to the GP several times in throughout my teens and pretty much just being told period pain is normal 🙄 …

Thankfully my pain isn’t as bad as it was then, if it starts getting worse again I will go to the GP, I live in a different area and think the GP’s are generally better here. Saying that I think the procedure they use to diagnose endo is actually quite invasive and is an operation. So I would rather not have that while the pain is still manageable.

I don't find I get any side effects with combined paracetamol/codine tablets , and they're the only thing that touch my period pain ( I have the joy of endometrosis) Worth a go OP!
