Flying long haul... tips?

I'm FINALLY off to Australia in a week, to see my DS1 who went out on a couple's visa 3 weeks before covid hit the Uk. He's getting married to the most awesome Aussie (she lived with us for 2 years :) )

I'm dreading the flight tbh. I have arthritis and damaged discs and sitting in cattle class for a day (two flights..first 17 hours) is going to cripple me! Not to mentio having my adorable but autistic adult son telling me about Supermarkets across the world for 17 hours straight while we fly Halloween Grin

What should I wear? Will my feet swell? Any tips for making it as pain free as possible?

Wear an N95 mask and make sure it fits snugly so no air leaks out. You don't want to catch COVID on the way there (or back) and ruin your visit. The most risky is during boarding, taxiing and after landing, when the pilots often turn off the air filtration system, so try to board last if you can to minimise exposure time. Drink through a straw so you can just nudge your mask up and quickly replace it.

Could you persuade your lovely son to write a book with all of this knowledge in it? That would keep him very busy and focused on the flight 🙂

I fly long haul NZ to UK yrly.
I actually find stretchy t shirt dresses more comfortable- I am less sweaty.
I take a couple changes clothes/ undies and I also take flannels so I can have a “top and tail” wash in toilets. .
Minimum alcohol, lots fluid and a good book and a sleeping pill!
