Zizzi, Prezzo or ASK Italian??

We're going away for a few days over half term and trying to keep it as budget-friendly cheap as possible. I think we have enough Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay for a meal out (or most of it) so looking at best options. We all like pizza and pasta dishes but have been a bit spoiled with good local restaurants so don't tend to go to chains. Looking for opinions on which of these are best from a quality of food and service point of view. Obviously I know the service will vary from restaurant to restaurant or even on luck with different servers but which do you rate best: Prezzo, Zizzi or ASK Italian? Thanks

I have a mild preference for Zizzi's but I admit that I haven't been to a Prezzo for quite a long time. I think the pasta is generally better than the pizza.

ofwarren · 15/10/2022 15:37

To be honest they are all very very similar.
The only place I've had to send food back was Prezzo though. The ravioli was still frozen inside! They also forgot our drinks order twice so I'd say for us, Prezzo is the worst of the 3.

Ask!

Muddledandbefuddled · 15/10/2022 15:40

Zizzi or Ask are nice, I've had a few bad experiences at Prezzo including a dish served still a bit frozen in the middle which put me off on many levels.

Floralnomad · 15/10/2022 15:42

We always go to Ask if given the choice of those 3 as they do the best Gluten Free pizza according to my daughter .

Same! Was it the ravioli perchance?

Pearlyqueen21 · 15/10/2022 15:58

Zizzi’s has gone downhill after lockdown - poor range availability IME and poor value. I won’t be going back.

Worthyornot · 15/10/2022 15:58

Zizzi is so so bland and boring, I feel all pizzas taste the same there. I prefer Ask.

Izzywhizzyisverybusy · 15/10/2022 16:00

I prefer Ask, followed by Zizzis, less fond of Prezzo.

SanFranBear · 15/10/2022 16:04

Prezzo do make the most amazing calzone though!

cuminpotato · 15/10/2022 16:04

Is it 2009?

AriettyHomily · 15/10/2022 16:06

Ask, pre I, then zizu, our local one has been dreadful since covid. I won't be going back.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/10/2022 16:06

O2 priority have offers. Plus if you subscribe to Ask newsletter you get a free tiramisu . Received by code.

BigusBumus1 · 15/10/2022 16:17

Ask is good for all pizzas and pasta and has a bit more of "something for everyone" in it. Plus its better for little ones as they get their own menu, crayons etc. I think Prezzo is more "grown up" and offering more Italian cuisine rather than just pizzas. Zizzis is very pizza based. So Ask is the best all-rounder. Plus you can book online which is always a bonus.

Ask

Is it 2009?

Heaven forbid a chain should stay open for over 10 years.

PermanentTemporary · 15/10/2022 16:27

I've always liked Ask.

Muddledandbefuddled · 15/10/2022 16:31

@ofwarren I can't remember. I have a feeling it was a risotto. But what stuck with me was that when we (politely) complained they basically said that's just how it was because some of the dishes came frozen and they microwaved them to order. I'm sure it happens all the time in restaurants, but being told that just made me resent paying restaurant prices for a microwave meal that I could have microwaved better at home.

GalesThisMorning · 15/10/2022 16:31

They're all the same really. The difference is location, just go to the one that is most city central, so you don't feel like you're eating in a shopping mall. Unfortunately they are often located in shopping malls, so you may wind up there!

They are all fine though. Maybe Prezzo slightly better than the others actually

That's how it made me feel too. I never realised they microwaved their meals, I mean, how hard is it to cook pasta?

SirenSays · 15/10/2022 16:39

Prezzo staff can never get my order right but they're more generous with the cheese so they win 🏆

littleroad · 15/10/2022 16:43

Ask. They’re great for my coeliac daughter. I get really irritated by the hate directed towards chains. Sometimes they’re the best place for coeliacs and I’m always glad to have that option.

R00tat00tt00t · 15/10/2022 17:19

Thanks everyone, really helpful comments. Sounds like Ask is our best bet. The one where we're going is in a central location and looks like quite an interesting building so pleasant surroundings.

I love Prezzo! Their Borrata salad was just delicious before they took it off the menu recently.
