So we’ve recently realised our 13-year old DS has a rounder back that would be considered ‘normal’ accompanied by some back pain. As he’s undergoing rapid growth, we want to catch this early and get a specialist to see him. My question is - who is this specialise? Do we get a referral through GP? Osteopath? Physio? Keen to get on it quickly so bypassing GP is probably a good idea? Any experience and advice?

I wouldn't recommend bypassing the GP. We did this unintentionally for my son not thinking the issue was significant. It ultimately delayed getting a proper diagnosis early. The physio we saw just treated the presentation of symptoms. It was 2 yrs later when she suggested that perhaps a referral to a paediatrician might be worth while. It turned out he had a hereditary condition which if we had known earlier would have taken us down a different treatment path.

So please do visit the GP in the first instance and get the paediatrician referral underway. You can still go to the physio while you wait for those appointments.

I know this is an old thread, but wondered how you were getting on?
