Help! Gift ideas - new baby!

Hi everyone!

My friend is having a baby shower soon and I’m going. She’s having baby alone & doesn’t earn a lot of money, she also doesn’t know what gender she’s having yet.

I want to get her a gift but I want to get her something she’ll really need for baby (not junk!) - something that will save her time, make her life easier, and something she may not have thought of. But I’m stuck, and don’t have children myself so I’m also a bit (or lot!) naive!! So far my list includes; night light (night feeds but with a ‘kind to tired eyes’ gentle light), travel baby changing mat (could use home or out and about), I pondered reusable nappies but my colleague said in the early days they’ll be harder plus with energy costs as they are they’re not really a money saver, so scratch that off the list!

I also plan in getting her a voucher for ‘just eat’! (Or similar) I imagine having an option to ‘just get a take away’ will be a nice!!

If she’s planning to formula feed a Nuby rapid cool. By far the best peace of kit we got.

I got given a load of 'stuff' but nothing that would have actually made a difference.

What I'd have liked to get:
Subscription or similar to Cook ready meals
Offer of meals dropped off to front door
Someone to come and hold baby whilst I slept/showered/had some time on my own.
I'd have absolutely loved it if someone had done a kind of make believe cheque book offering that kind of thing.

A night light with a built in white noise machine? Could you ask her if there's anything on her list that she's not bought yet?

Second another posters recommendation, a voucher for Cook or another delivery service. If she doesn’t have a partner/family member/friend living in with her to help, she will struggle to cook.

Cook vouchers if there's on near enough to deliver

Or tuppence and crumble star shaped baby blankets and towels are fab and very useful

Okay! Next job, Google cook! (Glad I was sort of on the right track with just eat!)

Right now, she doesn’t have a clue what she wants other than ‘everything’. Baby is ivf using donor and luckily she was successful on the first round…. She’s worried about ‘jinxing it’!!

I like to make up a caddy for baby shower gifts usually, fill a nappy caddy with muslins, creams, bath stuff, sponges, an outfit for baby, a nice book, some bits for teething, a baby towel etc it's usually the little things that get forgotten. I also made up a little kit for a friends baby shower with medicine and bits in for mum and baby so when she eventually needs it she can just grab the bag and it will all be there, things like calpol, teething powders, teether, nipple cream, bum cream, thermometer, vapour rub.
