Strange parcels being delivered.

Firstly, I've name changed for this, because I have mentioned it to several people in real life.
About a month ago, while I was out, my husband got a delivery of a box of 3200 paper towels for a paper towel dispenser. Unfortunately it was left on the doorstep, or he would have questioned it at the time. The address was ours, but said to Emergency Personnel. He looked up the sender to report it, but the seller went out of business 2 years ago.
An hour later, another much larger parcel arrived. Fortunately, this one required signing for and since it was also our address, but not for us, he refused it at the door. He did notice that this was from a different company, however.
We left the parcel unopened for several weeks (after having asked our neighbours if anyone was missing a big box of paper towels), just incase anyone contacted us about it.
Eventually, I opened it in case it actually contained a million pounds, but it was just paper towels.
It's been sitting on our landing ever since.
Unfortunately, yesterday another identical box of paper towels arrived - same closed down business address!
I have a horrible feeling that this is a monthly order that is just going to keep turning up, but there is no one to contact to stop it!

What do I do?????
I don't want thousands of paper towels 😭

I recently ordered an article of clothing from M& S but accidentally selected my friend’s address as the delivery address. I had it stored in there because I’d previously sent her some flowers when her cat died.

Celeryfavour · 14/10/2022 22:28

Onetouch is the brand of paper towels I think? Is there now a new business at the same address as the closed one?

Strangeparcels · 14/10/2022 22:29

No, not that company.
I can't think of anyone that would have my address that would be wanting paper towels and calling themselves Emergency Personnel.
Good thought though, thank you.

The brand of paper towels is selpak.

Do you live in a new build that was previously a business? We occasionally get letters for a shop that used to be where our house is now.

Strangeparcels · 14/10/2022 22:52

Ah, a pp gave me hint. There is indeed a new business dealing from the same address and using the old business's name on their address. Trouble is, there is no website, email or phone number, so I'm guessing it is some sort of scam.

Put the postcode into Companies House and see if any other businesses are linked with a phone number

Strangeparcels · 14/10/2022 23:06

They are registered with companies house. I'll have a look.

I missed the part where the OP was bragging about paper towels?

😂😂😂😂😂

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 14/10/2022 23:13

Yes, stealth posts are more likely to be about agas in your holiday home than a landing crammed full of paper towels!

What kind of scam pays couriers to deliver free stuff to people who havemt ordered it?

More likely that there's been a mix up with the address

What is the name of the new business?

Strangeparcels · 14/10/2022 23:17

There are 3 new businesses at the same address. None of them are called Onetouch. My husband reckons they are money laundering businesses, but I can't work out why they would then send paper towels to random addresses, so I'm not sure.

There appears to be a genuine business with that name, no doubt staff are having to wave their hands about to dry them 😀

This reads like a stealth boast/a promotion to sell. But in case it's not my advice is: I would call the police and tell them what's been going on just in case it's something more serious.

I don’t think I’ve ever read anything less like a stealth boast in my life.

AmuckAmuckAmuck · 14/10/2022 23:41

Damn you OP. How dare you sit in your nice home boasting about your paper towels when some of us can’t afford a paper towel! We used to dream of paper towels!

Pleiades2020 · 14/10/2022 23:52

I read recently that some companies buy their own goods from amazon to give themselves 5 star reviews, using address lists that are freely available to purchase. Could it be something like this perhaps?

Kedece2410 · 14/10/2022 23:58

Its really not a police matter. Noones asking for money, noones coming to collect them, it sounds like a mix up somewhere. I'm.not sure what pp think the police could do.

Queenie8 · 15/10/2022 00:12

Donate the paper towels to your local school. They'd be very grateful of them.

SarahDippity · 15/10/2022 00:18

There’s a possible scam in that one day you might get an ‘overdue payment’ notice for an extortionate amount, and proof of delivery. I would be seeking to notify the company (via Companies house registered business address) and putting up a notice saying ‘no deliveries from xyz company.’

Do you need a hobby? Papier-maché can be fun.

mindutopia · 15/10/2022 07:34

I would assume it’s a brushing scam. What are the businesses currently operating there? As in what kind of businesses are they? I would imagine they could be unrelated and the sender is simply using a random industrial estate sort of address so you don’t actually know where they came from. Is 3200 kitchen rolls relatively light? As in compact and cheap to ship? Initially, I was picturing 3200 kitchen rolls but I’m guessing you mean a massive industrial roll?

Strangeparcels · 15/10/2022 08:43

Could be a brushing scam. The companies that have this as their address are all a 'one person' director, and seem to move quite frequently. I don't understand why the address still states the old company's name though.

But would they? I think mine would look totally confused by that
