Photo included, do I need to see someone about these blisters?

I went for a walk at the weekend and rubbed the back of my heels in new trainers. I’ve had compeed on them until this morning, but they bloody hurt and the wounds seem worse not better (5 days on)

The smaller one has a purple area to the bottom which is SO sore - and the other one seems angrier and redder than before so I don’t know if it’s infected. There’s no tracking though I don’t think?

Do I just need to wait this out, or is there anything else I can do to help them heal? I go on holiday this weekend so luckily can wear flip flops, but sand and sea water is making me want to wince in advance!

(also, sorry for my horrid cracked heels - I cancelled my pre-holiday pedicure as there was no way I wanted someone to touch them with a pumice stone!)

Good grief I wasn't expecting them to be so deep. Go to your pharmacist who can prescribe better stuff than otc, or advise you to see a gp. Keep an eye on the one with red around it as it could turn nasty. Maybe a penline for overnight comparison?

OutDamnedSpot · 13/10/2022 21:03

Ouch!!! I’d also get to a pharmacist tomorrow.

kitcat15 · 13/10/2022 21:06

Draw a pen line round the red area…check it in the morning….if the red area is outside the pen line then you have an infection that’s spreading …see your gp

Ah I wasn’t sure I was over reacting cos they hurt! I’ll nip to the chemist tomorrow. Thank you for confirming I wasn’t being a hypochondriac!

I had really bad blisters like this once, I just wore flip flops until they had healed. I had the theory of just letting them air out and dry rather than being stuck in shoes and socks all the time. Luckily it wasn’t too cold, but they were flippin sore for quite a while.

SpudsIluv · 13/10/2022 21:44

They look clean, no issues, leave them to heal, nurse of 20 years.

TwoMonthsOff · 13/10/2022 21:45

Oooch - Try some medicated powder like cuticura and let the air get to them and salt water on holiday will work wonders actually

Lol. Really? They are so standard

op no you don’t need to se someone, just let them heal.

ofwarren · 13/10/2022 21:50

They just need to dry out and scab.
A few days with flip flops on and they will be much better

They might be standard to you but I rarely abused my heels to the point of blistering. Lol.

Iliketeaagain · 13/10/2022 21:58

Oh they look sore... but they don't look infected as the top of the wound is red, but not overly red around it.

Yes to drawing round it - some inflammation is normal for wound healin but if it gets bigger or tracks or you get green ooze from it, then ask for advice. I would cover them with a dry plaster and let them scab over. A practice nurse might put an iodine dressing on it and then an adhesive dressing, but that stings..

Unless you are diabetic, in which case - get advice from the pharmacist in the morning because you need to take extra care of your feet.

ColoursAndRainbows · 13/10/2022 21:59

Buy this. Spray it on a few times a day (it doesn’t sting at all). Live in flip flops and spray, allow to dry and cover with Compeed plaster if you have to wear shoes.

They are clean and will heal happily if you leave them alone.

The only thing I would do is cover them with Compeed blister plasters (not a cheaper alternative sadly) as you will be massively more comfortable, and they will heal underneath.

Nah they are standard.

Some of us blister v easily, it doesn't take 'abuse'.

MapleLeafForever · 13/10/2022 22:04

Yeah they look pretty normal to me too, another weird-feet/weird-walker here. I feel for you - they can be so sore. Compeed players are great - but don't be tempted to remove them until they come off naturally in shower or Bath, as they can really rip off the newly healed skin. Make sure they don't bleed or leak gunk too much as then they stick to your socks and harden, and pulling socks off then takes off any healed skin. So covering them up for that reason is good too.

There's another product I used that was a burn treatment, really moist layers of a gel sort of compound that you put on the blisters and cover with dressings, and it keeps the skin moist and able to move as it grows back, which also helps as they are less likely to split and re-open.

Yarnosaur · 13/10/2022 22:05

Did the compeed plasters fall off or did you take them off. Ideally you just put them on and leave them until they fall off, at which point healing is usually well advanced.

Floweryflora · 13/10/2022 22:08

Pixiedust1234 · 13/10/2022 21:51

Wow really. What an odd response; blisters are common place, you’re acting like it’s something weird. Do,you have kids? Do you tell them blisters are due to abuse. How very very odd.

Signeduptosimplyreplytothis · 13/10/2022 22:12

I'd wait it out but keep the air to them. If they get a yellow crust on them or swell or the redness tracks get medical advice

Signeduptosimplyreplytothis · 13/10/2022 22:13

Forgot if they become hot to touch too

Hawkins001 · 13/10/2022 22:15

From similar experience, id let it breath and dry out, as.much as possible.

all the best, @Thefailinghousewife

ZooTropia · 13/10/2022 22:16

Blister plasters for day and take off to dry out at night. Use the specially designed ones for blisters. They're ace!

fallfallfall · 13/10/2022 22:18

they have some really nice bandaid brand bandaid's that are specifically for this type of injury.

you of course clean and let the area air dry then apply this and leave them alone for a few if not more days.

HipposHaveNipples · 13/10/2022 22:22

Yeah they look fairly standard to me, I've had blisters like that before. I'd just stick another Compeed plaster on each.

FannyFifer · 13/10/2022 22:42

Mines looked the same. The compeed took the top layer of the blister, leave them to dry out if possible.
