Damage to car & no note

Just a rant really. Car was parked up at the front of the house and someone has driven into it damaging both doors on the driver's side. No contact details have been left and at the moment there's no CCTV or witnesses so looks like they've got away with it. And leaves us with the excess to pay. Grrr!

You may be able to claim your excess back from the MIB under the untraced driver's scheme.

We live on a terraced street and have given up on our car ever looking good. Delivery drivers, taxis, vans always damage it. We've replaced a bumper that was completely knocked off once, I hate it as notes are never left.

This happened to DH's car yesterday, looking at £1,500 worth of damage. Fuming.

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat @RandomUsernameHere

My best guess is at least £2k but only based on me doing similar many years ago so it'll have to be an insurance job. I didn't think you could use the untraced agreement for property damage only but I'll look into it @gobbynorthernbird thank you!

Apologies as old thread but some dick hit my car during school run. No note.
Looking at £1,500 worth to fix.

What did you do in the end?

Hall84 · 15/12/2022 12:41

We ended up going through our insurance given how much damage there was. They arranged the garage and car was picked up/dropped off. Unfortunately DH had forgotten to select courtesy car cover. The garage took additional photos/paint samples on the off chance we get any more information. We had to pay something but wasn't the full excess so might be worth making enquiries.

Thank you for response.
I am so pissed off with it. We've only had the car since September. Spent a fortune buying it & some dick has hit it & driven off.
I'm waiting for garage to ring back & confirm dates for fixing.

Do you have a local village / town Facebook group. Ours is fab. Post. People are very helpful generally, especially with cctv.

Worth asking on the parent WhatsApp groups - there is a good chance someone witnessed the incident or picked it up on their dash cam. Lots work even when the car is parked.

We were the same, had only had the car a couple of months. I tried knocking on neighbours doors/the local school & their pta/FB etc but unfortunately no luck. If it's a route you normally take can you look out for damage on cars as you park up? Hopefully you have better luck than me!

How long did it take you to get car sorted?

Hall84 · 15/12/2022 22:26

@MsMiaWallace a week to book in and then about about another week for the work maybe once we went down that route but it was driveable. I'd expect longer this time of year
