Nipple discharge referral to breast clinic

Just looking for others experiences.

I’ve had a yellow coloured watery liquid coke out of my nipple when I press in a certain place.

went to the gp today and she has referred me to the breast clinic.

she said breasts feel fine, no lumps, nothing abnormal. Although when she pressed down where I told her to she could feel the duct.

she said she’s not worried but referring me would reassure me and give me the answer to what it is.

im 30 with 2 children and absolutely terrified!

has anyone had a similar experience?

I was referred with a leaky and inverted nipple. The consultant said that the inversion was due to weak ligaments (age, pregnancy, BFing etc), and the discharge was a buildup of skin cells, natural oils, and sweat.

This was around 4 years ago. I had a physical examination and an ultrasound on the whole breast, they were very good. My nipple will always be inverted, and I get discharge if I haven't bathed for a few days. Fingers crossed OP, you're getting checked out and that's the main thing!

I had this and it turned out to be periductal mastitis and ductual ectasia. They are non-cancerous conditions, but more common in smokers and menopausal women I think. I was neither and under 40 at the time so I got all the red flags and very fast treatment which was terrifying - referal to oncology, mamogram etc, but this is what it was.

I had a horrible time breastfeeding (years earlier) and I don't know if this caused these conditions or if its unrelated. I still occasionally get discharge which can be white to dark brown, and occasionally its uncomfortable, so I treat as you might masitis - hot shower/flannel and cotton bras and tops.

Go for the checks, have a look at the advice on periductal matitis and ductal ectasia, and keep breathing. It is frightening, and I have everything crossed for you.

Hi thank you both so much.

she did mention ductal ecstasia but I don’t have any of the criteria for that either.

she also said she wasn’t worried. It’s not a red flag colour and it doesn’t come out by itself you have to press down quite firm for it to come out. She said all these things point to a benign condition she just wants me to have reassurance and it’s good to know exactly what it is so I don’t have anxiety if it goes on and on or it could be something that needs treatment even as a benign condition.

dp said this should reassure me and he wouldn’t be overly worried but this is the first “health scare” I’ve had and it’s knocked me for 6

I had this last year and went to the GP who did a referral to the breast clinic on a 2 week wait which scared me so much. I had a mammogram (just turned 40), ultrasound and a breast exam. They all came back clear but I was booked for another appointment 8 weeks later just to double check.

During the 8 week wait my 3 year old was jumping on the bed and managed to land on my chest and the nipple started leaking again. The consultant checked it again and said it was clear and like a previous poster mentioned it could have been a build up of sweat and natural oils. The staff at the breast clinic were amazing and said that they were willing to check any leakage.

I totally fell apart initially, but you go through the steps and deal with each result as it comes, hoping for the best. It's okay and normal to feel worried and scared, but try not dwell.

Hi.

sorry I’ve only just seen your post.

I was diagnosed with ductal ectasia. Told not to squeeze or press on the area so not to encourage the discharge. However, I have health anxiety so I didn’t follow that advice although I’m trying to now leave it alone.

it doesn’t cause me any problems really but they said they will take the ducts out if it has an effect on my day to day life.

so far it only happens when pressure is applied. Sometimes I have it on my pyjama too in the morning I’m guessing probably because I’ve squished my boob in my sleep but other than that I don’t really notice it.

how did you get on?
