How far do you go on a day out?

Arranged a day trip with another family. It's a 3 hour trip for me and a 2hr 20 journey for them. If it was just us I would plan to leave in the morning and spend as long as possible there. So I said we'd leave at 1130 and they would join us as we go through the city where they live and we would take a picnic for the train. They've now said they want to leave after lunch meaning 6 hours travel for max. 4 hours at the attraction but probably 3.5 as they don't want to be back on the late train. I'm sure my DC will want to spend longer than 3.5 hours there.

As I already said we would meet up on the train for lunch and travel together, how bad would it be for me now to suggest we travel separately and meet there?

Oh wow if I was travelling that fair I'd want to reach my destination at 10amish and have a good full day out! Don't think it's unreasonable at all to travel separately

Absolutely fine!

Just say “OK, no worries, mine will want to be there for longer, so we’ll meet you there and maybe get the same train home”

If I was travelling 3 hours by train I would leave as early as possible in the morning and make a proper day of it.

I probs wouldn't travel that far for a day trip anyway but if I did I'd be leaving at 9am at the latest.

Definitely say what you want.

I wouldn't travel for 3 hours for less than a week 🤣 but if I were you I'd leave as early as poss & leave as late as poss to maximise the day out.

Definitely fine to say you'll meet them there
