Anyone sell on Vinted? eBay?

Reached the conclusion that I dislike probably 85% of my wardrobe! I keep things for years, but my needs from clothes and styles have changed and I begrudge spending money on myself.

One of the things I want to do is own almost all dresses/jumpsuits, for all seasons. I love the thought of having a whole outfit ready to grab from the hanger and not have to piece things together.

Realised today that I could sell pretty much everything I have and then treat myself to a few new pieces that I'd actually wear 🤔 I'm currently on maternity leave so have the time, just don't want to feel like I need lots of time to do and don't get much back!

Anyone else done this? Is there a better way to sell?

I used Vinted, can take time but I found it quiet easy and just popped a bag of stuff in my airing cupboard and sent it out bit by bit, made about £80 so far. Also got some great bargains on there too. Its stuff I would usually give away so good to get some cash from it.

MeAndAutumnGoHandInHand · 13/10/2022 12:40

@PrancerandDancer thanks for the reply! Do you think Vinted is more popular than eBay these days?

Yes I’d like to sell some stuff floating around before I move house. Pre pandemic I sold high street and designer on ebay and vintage on Etsy.

ive heard buyers and sellers scam a lot on Vinted and their aren’t the same protections as eBay has

MrsTimRiggins · 13/10/2022 12:44

I sell on Vinted. Sold loads, bought lots and never had any issues at all!

ReformedWaywardTeen · 13/10/2022 12:50

I use Vinted all the time.

I like that it's a set price upfront. eBay was so hit and miss. The last straw was when I moving and had the biggest clear out. Of the £450 I made, 40% was to buyers who were a pain in the arse, 10% was to genuinely problem free buyers, and the rest were just annoying or didn't pay.
My fave was the girl who bought a pair of boots, brand new from me. In the box. Worth about £250, they were a gift which I never wore but was too polite to say I wasn't keen on. She bought them for £50. Listed as a size 7 as they were a size 7 UK. She bought them, they arrived and I got a "not as described" notification. Apparently, she wanted size 8 boots. These are "only a 7". I screen grabbed the listing. She said she had read it as 8. These boots come up big usually. These are too small.
You would think eBay would tell her to jog on. Nope. They have her a full refund and she never sent the boots back despite saying she had.

Vinted is pretty good on cases both buying and selling. So much less hassle. And you can use evri or royal mail. I have stuff I buy delivered to my local shop as it's cheaper and evri seem to work better at drop offs to shops.

I've been using vinted recently to sell a few bits of my clothes but mostly the kids outgrown things.

I don't put them on for a lot but have £130 on my Vinted account which I will leave there to offset against future purchases.

db91 · 13/10/2022 12:57

I use vinted all the time. Just check where your local drop off points are for the couriers & if they are convenient for you - my local shop take all the Hermes parcels however with work hours I struggle to get to the post office so I don't offer Royal Mail as an option on my listings

vegang · 13/10/2022 12:58

I love Vinted, I listed my autumn/winter things that were too big now on Sunday and have already made £135

Sandcastlesinthesky · 13/10/2022 12:59

I’ve made about £300 since august on Vinted. I price stuff quite low. It’s quite easy and buyer pays postage

fudgefiesta · 13/10/2022 13:01

I've just started to buy from Vinted and have a question: I've ordered two separate items. Both I asked for delivery by EVRI to a local shop. That option was free, delivery to my house was chargeable.
How come shop delivery is free?? It's great and what I would chose anyway. But i'm curious as to how it works!

NiqueNique · 13/10/2022 13:05

Because the shop will have their own account with the courier as drop-off/pick-up point - they are delivering/picking up there anyway so to drop your parcel off doesn’t cost any extra. Whereas driving to your house adds costs.

Tomikka · 13/10/2022 13:59

As well as shop delivery being cheaper as it’s a bulk drop off for the courier (as @NiqueNique has noted) presumably Vinted are paying a bulk contract rate for their parcel labels

The item price is between buyer & seller
Vinted take an ‘insurance’ fee
Vinted & Evri have a ‘partnership’ promoting each other, which gives a free/discounted price to the buyer. Evri might take the hit against parcel shop deliveries or they balance out the overall business of pick up & home delivery

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 13/10/2022 14:05

I have made over £100 just in the past week selling lots of the kids old jackets and toys along with some of my old stuff. It is really easy to use.

Tomikka · 13/10/2022 14:09

For example with Royal Mail you can buy stamps or buy online labels
Businesses may run franking machines (which were more common before the online labels)

Big businesses / government departments could do their postage by the sack load

Back in the mists of time I did my work experience in an Army Divisional HQ and spent some time in the post rooms.
There was the internal Army/MoD mail service - it went into a local pigeon hole or a national sack to be shipped around internally
for ‘free’
For non Army addresses it went into a 1st or 2nd class Royal Mail sack and we jumped in the back of a landrover to the post office. Each sack went by weight - instead of a stamp or franking per letter/package it just had the ‘Post Paid’ reference number pre printed or rubber stamped

In later years this experience enabled me to explain to remote offices why the ‘post paid’ envelopes they were putting in post boxes kept resulting in excess charges from Royal Mail and return to sender rejections by the post room

I've just sold a dress on Vinted, it's sent me an Evri label to print which I've done, however when I check the nearest Evri drop off point to me is 18 miles away??? What are my other options now? Can I still take to post office and take the hit on the postage rather than drive 18 miles?

If you send with an alternate method then Vinted won’t have tracking confirmation and will ultimately cancel the sale, it’s possible to restore that but only with the right communications:

@Tomikka thank you so much!

Georgeskitchen · 13/10/2022 23:00

I've sold loads of stuff on Vinted it's so easy to use. Only had one complaint about a skirt , I only charged 2 quid and the customer wasn't satisfied. I just send I would process it as a refund but no need to send it back. Customer was fine with that and I still have my 5 star rating 😀
