Have you ever had a crush / fallen in love with an historical figure?

This has happened to me in the most unexpected manner. I'm in my early 50s (old enough to know better) & I've developed a massive obsession / crush on a long dead writer. It's so weird & had never happened to me before.
Please tell me someone else has experienced this?

I've been in love with Richard Plantagenet since I was a child. My sister has a serious crush on Prince Rupert.
We're a strange family 😀

I loved Prince Rupert back in my 20s.

Mercutio, from Romeo and Juliet. So not only historical but fictional too.

My chances are slim.

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 13/10/2022 00:52

Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Bonus: he looked like this when young.

Hector of Troy.

Also Jesus at one point (I am not religious).

Sir Walter Raleigh! I love a goatee… plus he bought potato’s to the uk so if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t get my roast potatoes… but It’s definitely the goatee to be honest ! I’m Swooning just thinking about him! I suppose all Elizabethan men had goatees so to be honest if he’s male and Elizabethean I’m bound to have a crush 😆

Aria999 · 13/10/2022 00:56

(In both cases early teens me).

Geppili · 13/10/2022 00:56

Lord Peter Wimsey. I was so jealous of Harriet Vane as a teenager. Blush

SenecaFallsRedux · 13/10/2022 01:06

Charles II, but in his Rufus Sewell incarnation. Smile

Rufus Sewell shouldn’t be allowed out. He’s pure filth. Look at those eyes.

But not all would sport a goatee quite like Sir Walter (per Clive Owen in Elizabeth the Golden Age.)

I always figured the lady who dug the car park up for Richard III remains had a crush on him. The film adaptation certainly seems to take it that way.

Charles Brandon. King Arthur.

Does anyone watch these YouTube things where they bring historical figures to life? . It's fascinating.
Haven't seen a James Joyce one though!

Yes! I love this channel.

Soonenough · 13/10/2022 06:24

All the Medici men , especially Lorenzo. STBX did not appreciate my obsession in Florence. Hence, off he goes.

James Joyce is a family obsession, brother did dissertation on him. Richard Ellman biography is the best .

Touch of Derren Brown about this picture.

For me, not historical but Yuri Gagarin. Mostly because of his lovely smile.

GlassOuijan · 13/10/2022 08:54

Gustav Mahler for me. I love a composer! Beethoven was my first crush, but Mahler took over. I called my first dog Gustav.
He was proper gorgeous too.

GlassOuijan · 13/10/2022 08:55

I mean Mahler was gorgeous, not my dog. My dog was hideous.

warofthemonstertrucks · 13/10/2022 09:10

I am another one very fond of Anne Boleyn-I wrote my dissertation about her.

I also like Dick Turpin. He was rumoured to have had a tryst with his then wife whilst on the run in our old house (which was a converted coaching inn). Apparently he nearly got caught but jumped out of my old bedroom window to escape.

Thedishonthecoffeetable · 13/10/2022 09:15

Another one for Charles II and yes I blame Jean Plaidy too

Flaunch · 13/10/2022 17:54

Fucking hell I recon me and James could have a lot of fun 😂

NegroniLover · 13/10/2022 19:18

Mahler is pretty handsome too!
