Do 16 year old get annual leave/holiday pay?

I didn't, when I was that age, but I think worker's rights have improved a bit in 20 years. I know my last zero hour contract job had rolled up holidays (pay added to hourly rate instead of paid leave) and that isn't supposed to happen any more. But in struggling to find out how/if it's different for under 18s.
DS works 2 evenings a week washing up at the local pub, 3 hours a time roughly but he has to write down his hours after each shift. He doesn't have a contract, he's only been there a month but his friend doesn't either and he has been there longer. Should they be getting paid leave?
Government website says yes but it's worked out on average hours a week over the last 52 weeks and obviously he hasn't been there that long.

If you're under school leaving age you're not legally entitled to paid holiday from work. If you're over school leaving age, you are legally entitled to the same amount of paid holiday as other workers - check how much you should get. You can check if you're over or under school leaving age on GOV.UK.

We're in England but I read the same site for England earlier and I'm sure it said the same things but I was still confused.

Also his lack of a contact gives him no power and a perilous position to be in.

I have advised him (and his friend) to ask for a contract, but I don't know if that's the done thing for 16 year olds. I didn't have one for most of my jobs as a teenager, except Tesco. Hospitality seems to be really informal. There's not much choice for jobs here unfortunately as we're in a small village and buses don't run at weekends, so it's one of 2 pubs or nothing. The other pub gave him 2 trial shifts they didn't pay him for and then told him they didn't need him after all! He doesn't really want to rock the boat, but I want him to know his rights.
