Can a gap in front teeth come back in adult years?

Posting here hoping someone will see it.

when I was a kid my two front too teeth came through crooked and with a massive gap. I had some sort of brace, can't remember the name, it was like a plate and clips and I could take it in and out and it did the job, my top teeth become straight and no gap. I was around 8-9 at the time.

I am early thirties now and I'm sure there is a gap forming in my top teeth. They were totally together before, I am sure if it and now there's a slight gap, not noticeable but I am concerned.

I have the dentist soon anyway but I could not afford any orthodontics as an adult 😭 my budget would not stretch!

Yes, teeth move back. I've got a massive overbite that moved straight back after braces.

Toying with the idea now of getting braces again and then having a permanent wire retainer.

Yes they shift back. I've got a slight overbite that the dentist said could probably be corrected with braces, but that as soon as they came off the teeth would start moving back to where they were before.

Yes a gap can return even after orthodontic treatment.

One of my DC didn't wear their retainer overnight after treatment and the gap has come back

Thanks all. It was 25 years ago I had it in and it worked well, so I've been happily going along with straight top teeth and now looks like a small gap is forming. I sound frantic but I simply cannot afford expensive treatments or braces 😭

I do have an over bite and I have jaw problems, as well as TMJ. I go to the dentist once a year and I am due to go soon so I'll ask them.

I also clench but thankfully it has not seemed to cause me any damage - yet!! I'll probably be told differently soon! Worried this could be related to the gap. It's hardly noticeable but I can see it and there is differently a gap that wasn't there before!

Yes it can, I am having Invisalign treatment at the moment and they have been completely upfront that I will need to wear a retainer for life (either a permanent fixed wire or a removable one to wear overnight) otherwise there's a strong likelihood the teeth will move back.

Ask the dentist for a retainer to stop the grinding. May stop teeth moving!

Thanks all. I already have a custom made gum shield to wear at night but I'm pretty clueless at it all! I don't grind, just clench and I do it in the daytime too 🤦‍♀️

I had a gap which lessened with braces. As I got older and lost back teeth my front teeth did seem to move and I felt the gap was bigger.

I had diastema treatment a few months ago and I'm thrilled with it.

Yes, ask for the retainer.

I had a metal bracket at the back of my front teeth for probably about 10 years. It eventually broke off and I haven't had it redone but my teeth stayed in place, must be now another 10 years without the bracket and they are fine. I had mine done as an adult.

My one front tooth moved in the past making a gap, which I hated, but it moved back after a while. I spoke with the dentist and he put a splint across the back of that tooth and secured it to the tooth next to it. The splint is not permanent and could break at any time but it is a short term and relatively cheap way to prevent it moving.
