Genuinely effective supplements to counteract thinning/breaking hair?

Does anyone take anything that they think has genuinely made a difference? I used to have thick curly hair but 7 years post my last child I still have crazy breakage, loads of tiny baby hairs around my face and I lose a heck of a lot every time I wash it. (As it's curly I don't brush it so I don't she'd as straight-haired people do between washes, but even so I think I'm losing more than ever now, and that's borne out my the thin, straggly nature of the hair I do have left 😳)

I don't use heat stylers, bleach/dye and I sleep in a silk turban. Are there any other straws I can clutch at?!

I'd like to know too.
I always wonder if supplements that help with hair growth will give you unwanted hair.

It could be a lot of things. Have you had covid or another serious illness? Stress on the body from illness can cause temporary hair loss. If this is the cause it will eventually grow back on its own. A much more rare cause is biotin deficiency, which supplementation will fix.
The most likely cause, however, is changing hormones. Progesterone and estrogen levels fall with age, which can lead to hair loss, mostly on the top of the head. I'm in the US, so I can buy progesterone cream over the counter. Taking an evening primrose oil supplement along with progesterone cream is most effective.
