Have you used a 'Dremel' multi tool?

I've bought one, the 3000. It had a brush attachment fixed and I want to install a 1.2mm drill bit but I can't for the life of me fathom how to do it. I read the instructions to get the old attachment out but I can't see how to tighten in a new one. A 1.2mm drill bit is very thin and I don't see that it's possible for the 'teeth' to move and grip it. These are dremel drill bits, so I assumed they'd fit straight in. Can you help?

Have you got the small black spanner that comes with?

peerie · 10/10/2022 13:24

Hold blue button to lock the shaft

Insert drill bit, hold blue (lock) button, locate spanner on shaft and turn anti clockwise

Yes, I understand this, but the hole doesn't go small enough to hold the bit. The maximum tightness leaves the chuck hole too loose. I'll try & attach a pic

hmm, that is a very tiny drill bit, never used one that size.

I use a dremel multichuck for attaching anything, I remember being irritated that I had to buy it to use certain bits!

Yeah, I think this is the answer, it needs a new collet for smaller bits. But I've just found a handy Youtube where the guy wraps the tiny bit with wire so I'm going to see if that works for a quick solution.

Good luck

Buggsilla · 10/10/2022 13:48

Thank you! I've already drilled what I needed to. I can confirm the wire-wrap works.

Bit stingey of Dremel not to sell the smaller collect with the actual drill..Hmm

You have two choices, either fit a smaller collet into the shaft (there are 4 available sizes), or get a Dremel multi-chuck. It's annoying that the multi-chuck isn't supplied as standard, & you have to buy it separately.

I adore my Dremel. I use it for polishing rocks. But my god the accessories are expensive. Amazon usually comes up with generic alternatives that are cheaper.

@Random789 Have you tried the ScotchBrite-style polishing wheels? They come with a SpeedClic attachment. They are fantastic for polishing coins, and probably would work on stones as well.

🧟‍♀️ thread!

Random789 · 08/09/2023 21:40

Thanks, @Tzimi. I don't think i've tried that kind, though i've used similar 'fibrous' buffing wheels. I will give it a go! Anything with a speedclic attachment is usually so much easier to use.

sometimes think to myself, if I had a fire & I could only save one item, it would be my Dremel & all its accessories! 😁
