Do people still have dinner parties? I hate to be 1950s but my DH has a job where possibly this would be beneficial?!
We've not actually been invited to any ourselves but is this something that happens? I'm fairly anxious and inexperienced but could try it, do people invite their boss over?! Am I failing at being an adult by being in bed in by 8pm every night most nights?!

It’s all very ‘Margo Leadbetter’ having ‘sir’ over for dinner to help Jerry up the career ladder…

I’d love to know what your husband does.

Thinking back to old films and tv shows, I think my husband’s job (banker) would be one that’s often portrayed as being a dinner-party requirer.

The idea of donning a bow and serving a pot roast to my husband’s manager makes me cringe. Why would anyone even consider that this is a thing?

It’s not a thing anymore , and promotion is based on ability and performance, not drinking brandy whilst your little wifey slaves away, sure personal relationships are part of it, who likes you, but those are developed on the job or maybe even out for dinner drinks social events.

if any man thinks it might help him up the ladder then it’s guaranteed he’s going no where and is not well regarded; even asking your manager would be so awkward.

I love a dinner party! Going and hosting. But only friends. Not work colleagues. My mum who is 80 this month still hosts lunch /dinner parties! She has done forever, her and my dad together. Now she is a widow she still does it! She enjoys cooking for other people and is v good at it .

Other people's cooking always terrifies me.
