Queen’s Christmas Message…

Worried1305 · 09/10/2022 19:16

I just had a very random thought. Doesn’t the Christmas message usually get recorded way ahead of time? Is it possible that this year’s one was already recorded before the Queen sadly passed away? Will Charles have to do a re-record?

Don’t think it’s this ahead of time. It will be the Kings Christmas speech.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2022 19:18

It's only done a short while before Christmas.

CuriousCatfish · 09/10/2022 19:19

I doubt we will have the ghost of Queen Liz on Christmas afternoon.

It will be King Charlie, I hope they moved the ink pot first though.

I’m sure King Charles would have his own Christmas message.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/10/2022 19:22

Usually recorded in early December, I think. HM won't be short of material this year.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 09/10/2022 19:22

I think it's unlikely to be earlier than sometime in December as she tended to mention significant events that had taken place throughout the year. The fire at Windsor Castle happened 20th November 1992 and I seem to remember that was mentioned in that years speech.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 09/10/2022 19:24

It"s only a short time in advance, it's usually mentioned in the papers when it happens iirc

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/10/2022 19:24

No, it's recorded in December a week or so in advance. They can't do it too early in case a major event happens that needs to be acknowledged.

liveforsummer · 09/10/2022 19:25

Can't be that ahead of time as they'd need to reference more recent events than September

AdaColeman · 09/10/2022 19:25

It will be The King's Speech this year.

Worried1305 · 09/10/2022 19:28

Ok thanks everyone, panic over!!

I had thought the same thing, I don’t usually watch the Christmas message from the Queen/King now obviously but I will watch this year, I watched the late Queen’s speech during lockdown as I thought that was a historic occasion it isn’t very often the monarch makes a speech outside of Christmas. I’ll be interested to see what Charles says

A580Hojas · 09/10/2022 19:36

Come on now! Have a think. Of course it's not broadcast live but it's not recorded in friffing August .

Only on Mumsnet do people start earnest chats about what their Christmas Eve plans are 3 months ahead.

A580Hojas · 09/10/2022 19:38

And even if she HAD recorded it in August/September it wouldn't be broadcast and Charles would do it.

Honestly, I do wonder sometimes.

x2boys · 09/10/2022 19:47

It would be a bit weird if we did considering she's dead.

WorkerBeeeee · 09/10/2022 19:55

Imagine if the Queen had died on Christmas Eve!

Worried1305 · 09/10/2022 19:57

@A580Hojas Well obviously it wouldn’t be broadcast! I was just thinking how weird it would be if they had recorded it and then had to do a re-record.

Imagine if the Queen had died on Christmas Eve!

I suspect the news would have been suppressed till Boxing Day.

Worried1305 · 09/10/2022 19:57

Oh my goodness @WorkerBeeeee can you imagine!

OP posts:
A580Hojas · 09/10/2022 20:04

Would it actually be weird? She was a very old lady. I expect they had plans in place in Operation London Bridge for exactly this scenario for the last 30 years or so.

Zosime · 09/10/2022 20:16

Of course it's not broadcast live

It was, in the early years of the Queen's reign, and before. 1959 was the first year it was pre-recorded.

It was said the Queen didn't much enjoy doing it live and could never relax and enjoy her Christmas until it was over. One of the reasons it began to be pre-recorded was so that it could be distributed to the Commonwealth nations ahead of time, so they could broadcast it at a time that suited their own time zones.
