You can check what your actual council tax payments will be. Find your band here:

www.tax.service.gov.uk/check-council-tax-band

Then your own council website should have the rates they charge per band.

Council tax (if only one adult there should be a reduction)
Water
Electric
Gas
Tv licence
Landline
Broadband/ tv media etc
Homecare (cover for electric and gas problems)
Buildings insurance if owner
Service charges/ ground rent?

Your water bill will depend on whether the property is metered or on water rates.
If it's metered then you will pay for what you use plus a standing charge, with sewerage portion of the bill if you are on mains drainage being proportional to that.
If it's rates you pay a flat fee irrespective of consumption for the year. Likewise for sewerage.

I live alone in a 2 bed apartment

C tax £120
Water £27 (meter)
Gas and electric £100 (then minus the current discount of £66)
Contents insurance £12
Broadband £25
Buildings insurance is included in the maintenance fees

My DS lived in a 1 bedroom flat on his own.
electricity (no gas) £130
council tax (with 25% discount) £100
water £30
management company £140
broadband £30

Do you get universal credit or other means tested benefits/on a low income/anyone disabled?
This could affect the costs

  • council tax do single parent discount, reduced bands for disabled, reduced costs on low income,
  • water also have several schemes depending on what your circumstances are,
-some broadband companies have reduced cost services. Lots of other things can also affect the cost such as water meters (worth looking into if not already insitu), how long your in the home, type of fuel etc.

So it's council tax A which is £1378 per year (can't remember the exact amount) but am I right in thinking I get a 25 % discount for being a single person?

Yes you will. Have you checked if you eligible for any benefits?

Council tax will be on your council website. Likewise water will be based on your council tax band unless you have a meter
so that will on United utilities website if you’re in the north west.
my gas and electric is currently about £70 a month in a 2bed flat but I don’t have kids and I’m pretty low usage.
home insurance you can get quotes online. You might need contents only if you’re in a flat, my buildings cover is done through the management company.
ask friends or family before you sign up to broadband, there’s often referral schemes eg I get £50 credit on my virgin account if I refer someone and they do too when they sign up.

I rent a 2 bedroom flat, new build HA with one teen, I'm single.

These are all monthly payments -
Council tax is £92, band A with single person discount.
Energy is currently £170, this time last year it was £50.
Water is less than £20. We don't use much, neither of us like baths so we just have a shower. No garden so no plants to water, etc. Just use water for showers, washing dishes and washing clothes really.
TV license £13 ish I think. Then I have contents insurance £10 a month.

TV and internet package is £80 but that can be as cheap or expensive as you want to it be really, I have Sky, Netflix and prime video with that.
