I've applied for support allowance for myself. I have Lupus and worked up till last year when it became to much for me.

I became aware I could claim benefit (I think) in August. Filled in form online sent a Fit Note to be told I couldn't claim as hadn't paid any NI last year - only worked part time - but they sent be a form for medical details and permission to see my medical records snd talk to my Dr.

Then thus week I was asked for another Fit Note! I got one and sent it off but my Dr says she needs to see me before I can have another.

Has anyone any idea how long it takes to sort the claim out or if I will actually get any claim.

At the moment we live on DH wage which we can do - just.

I'm 4 years off retirement age.

Was it Pip or ESA?

VanCleefArpels · 09/10/2022 11:35

What exactly are you claiming for?

BookHermitBlack · 09/10/2022 11:36

Is this esa or pip?

Esa took about 6 months for me back in 2018 and I had to continue to submit fit notes till it was complete. I think it was probably about 4 weeks after the medical I got the outcome. It was backdated and you often find you get the money in your bank before the confirmation letter.

Pip was about 4 months for initial assessment in 2018. I've no idea what it's like now. I sent my renewal pack in in February 2022, had a phonecall a few weeks ago to see if I still needed pip (trying to reduce numbers I think) then after a 20 minute grilling I got told won't be assessed before my renewal date, but payment will continue as they have such a backlog they can't tell me how long this will be.

It is really how long is a piece of string question because not even pip/esa staff seem to have much clue.

Just get lots of advice, concentrate on the negatives (how many days you can't do something, not how many days you can do something) and get evidence.
Good luck with it.

I was wondering what it is you’ve applied for.
I requested an application for for PIP on 2nd June. Two weeks ago they asked me to send my passport and some other proof of I’d/address.

My friends DP waited 9 months to hear if they would get PIP. Housebound due to long covid, under respiratory consultants etc. It was a very long wait for them!

Ahh x post

It sounds like they may be doing a credits only claim if you don't have enough NI credits to be paid ESA ? Have you actually received any payment from them? You might be better off claiming Universal credit instead but that would depend whether you have a working partner , savings etc?

Sorry just seen you have dh's wages. You may still qualify for Universal credit depending on his wage once you have been assessed as not fit for work. If you have the LCWRA element on a Universal claim then you would get a work allowance meaning part of your dh's wages is completely disregarded.
