How easy is it to switch broadband?

Currently with virgin paying £75 a month basic tv & broadband.
Are there considerably cheaper options around & how much of a pain is it to switch provider?

Easy peasy, if you can get the dates to line up.

ILoveShula · 08/10/2022 19:33

It was straightforward. No issues

If you're out of contract, easy.
If you're in contract you may have to wait.

For options just Google 'Broadband near me' and you'll find tons of sites showing you what deals are around

But, if you want TV with it, it'll get expensive.
Personally I go for BT Broadband for £20 the Netflix and Disney and Amazon and ITV, 4, 5 etc.
I don't have any TV packages.

Supposed to be easy but every single time (10 × plus no lie) we have gone offline for at least a week until open reach can come out to fiddle with something.

Yes I’m out of contract (been with virgin over 7 years)
what speeds should I be looking for & do I need a phone line? There isn’t a BT one here

We switched this year after several lifetimes with BT. We ran the two concurrently for a couple of weeks, as we really needed to not lose the broadband connection, and it was fine that way. I think it did take a little longer than we'd expected for the new connection to become active.

Depends what you plan to do and how many people live with you.

If it's just you to check email and suft.mumsnet, a tiny MB per.month will do you.
If there's you, 3 kids, a husband, they play online games, download music, stream Netflix and Disney etc then a faster one will be necessary.

Have a look around:

Have you asked Virgin for a better deal? Get one lined up, then get through to disconnections and negotiate.

StillNotWarm · 08/10/2022 20:04

We ditched the landline when we moved house. Noone used it, and all of us now have a mobile. The landline just got spam calls.

SoLongFurlough · 08/10/2022 20:19

There’s just 3 of us here and it would just be used for streaming & a wee bit of gaming. Definitely could do away with the landline as it’s never been used!
