I wasn’t expecting middle age to start today.

I thought it’d be a slow run-in, but no. I hit middle age today.

Yesterday I was running around in the throes of youth, not even uttering a sigh as I got off the sofa. Today is a different matter.

I’m not sure how it happened but I inadvertently acquired a pair of “oh, they’d be handy to keep in the utility room and use to nip out to the washing line” shoes this morning. I was in a local hardware shop and they just kind of manifested in my trolley. They’re practically clogs. Green, rubbery, wool-lined, and ridiculously comfortable. Like Crocs- only uglier.

This is just the start of it, isn’t it?

I complain about people mumbling on tv and would like them to enunciate more clearly.
I get very annoyed by historical anachronisms.
I usually remember the original version of a programme, which was usually superior.

It'll be practical cardigans next, mark my words .

It's true about Crocs being in. My cousin told me her 23 y old daughter wants some pink ones for Christmas. She lives in London where apparently they are popular. Told her if she pairs them with socks she needs to be clubbed🙄🤣

I live in Uggs in winter, so warm and comfy. I was about to say they are definitely out of fashion, but having just googled I see they’re coming back in! They will be my winter footwear until I die! If you use the protector spray they’re fine in all weathers.

My middle age markers have been M&S “full briefs”. My drawer is full of them, I even have a Kondo type way of folding them so they’re in neat rows. Yes to the elasticated waistbands! I needed a new smart pair of black trousers and was absolutely thrilled to find a decent pair with an elasticated waist (M&S again!).Gardening is actually now a hobby of mine, ditto knitting and crochet. I may have also used the phrase “in my day” more than once!

I have a teacher colleague born in the year 2000. I'm sure I have a cardigan older than him.

😂

Ive also got a pair of crocs for going to hang the washing out and going outside with the dogs. But mine are em-barr-ass-ing!! DD’s multicoloured cast offs from when she was about 10. I think that’s when you’re officially O L D: Using your child’s cast offs as they’re not trendy anymore and you don’t care. I also have a pair of her sliders, which are no longer fluffy enough and I use around the house.

Blimey, that's younger than my DD. And a lot younger than many of my clothes.

Not younger than my dd but I also have older clothes. That’s about the same age as our (superking) bed. We have separate mattresses. Amazingly, Dh’s mattress at 22 years old Shock is still as good as new.

There’s a world of difference between wearing crocs because they are in fashion and wearing them for pottering round because they’re comfy. We all know which side middle age is on.

I have a few hoodies and a coat which are DC cast offs. They don’t really fit, I’m not a skinny teenage boy for starters, but they cost me and arm and a leg and I’m getting the wear out of them.
