Migraines ruining my life

It's just horrific. As I type this thread, I'm seeing these sort of lightning bolt daggers.

Within the hour, my vision in one eye will go. My face will droop to one side, and I won't be able to type properly or speak - the words won't come out. I'll have a splitting headache and won't be able to feel my left hand side

I'm just so fed up of this. I have a problem swallowing and tablets are hard to take, I manage it with a lot of coke and swigging by sips so they go down with the tablet.

I can't just lay in a dark room, I have a disabled DC and a baby to look after.

Argh

Have you spoken to the Dr? Have you been given migraine medication to take? Yes, they are in tablet form but some of mine are very small and easy to swallow. Do you have asprin in the house? Google to satisfy yourself as I don’t think it’s responsible of me to tell you how much I take at the start of a migraine but that can help alongside the coke.

Cupcakegirl13 · 07/10/2022 07:11

How often are they happening ?

Mindymomo · 07/10/2022 07:12

I suffered with migraines for years, but had a good doctor who said I should try one of the tripton tablets that melt on the tongue. These were marvellous and worked really quick, within an hour the migraine was gone, whereas before I would virtually be bed bound for 2/3 days as no over the counter medication touched it. Please see your GP there are many different migraine tablets out there, it’s just finding the right one.

I've had migraines for thirty years and only in this last year have I got a handle on them. The GP put me on beta blockers, which have reduced the severity of the attacks. I then have a Zomig spray to take when I feel one coming on. The spray means I don't have to swallow any tablets and it works fast. My daughter also has migraines but as she has asthma she is on a different beta blockers than I am. There are so many things to try, different triptons, different beta blockers, there's even some anti depressants that can help. I would say keep going back to your GP until you find something that suits you. It was bloody awful when my kids were young, dealing with migraines. I wish I had sorted them then. Good luck, you have my upmost sympathy.

If they are happening regularly, you can take preventative medication for them. I found that painkillers were no good and they'd work on one but not the next, the preventative makes any headache much more manageable.

Ask for melts or nasal spray. I have injections but it took the neuro recommendations to get a prescription.

kitcat15 · 07/10/2022 08:02

Get a neurology referral from gp….my DD had migraine from childhood….at 18 she got a referral to Walton neurological centre …..it was a long slog ….tried loads of different meds like PP discusses …..then acupuncture then Botox….is now taking an self injection in her thigh once a month and she now very rarely gets a migraine and if she does it’s manageable ……the consultant she sees has been great…..never given up on her….and she’s finally turned a corner

You can both triptans and anti-emetics in wafer form. I've found sumatriptan LIFECHANGING for my migraines.

LemonySippet · 07/10/2022 08:19

Go to the doctor! I suffered for years but take daily tablets now (even if taking tablets is hard it's better than suffering) and now get about one a month instead of 3 or 4 a week, and I have triptans to knock those on the head (ha). The doctor was horrified I had suffered for as long as I had and was only too keen to immediately start me on meds.
