I'm ready to face my fear of heights

What things can I do to push myself. I thought about indoor rock climbing or zip lining. Can anyone suggest anything else that I could try to push myself.. if I dare?!

Good for you, OP!

London Eye?

Good idea and definitely not something I'd be comfortable with.. just don't want to travel to london 😂🙈

Indoor rock climbing is exactly what I’m doing. I’m ticking off Wainwrights at the moment and a few need a bit of a scramble to get to the top. A guide I used recommended climbing and I’ve been going for a couple of years - it’s really helped. I don’t do the massively high routes, and I only top rope, but it’s great fun and a really good destresser funnily enough - it’s the only thing that completely clears my mind.

Are you in/near a city that has a restaurant on a higher floor?

a viewing tower of any kind?

cliff walks?

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 07/10/2022 20:09

Indoor climbing is great because you can go up as high as you want and then come down. And each time you can just try to go one hold higher than previously. So there’s a really clear progression.

Shopping centre escalators? I don't mind climbing much because I'm in control but shopping centres are horrible. I tried to go canyoning in the summer, but I ended up chickening out and walking down

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 07/10/2022 20:30

For when you've progressed a bit, I recommend Go Ape! The achievement (and relief) when you complete a course is great.

I have a fear of heights but really want to do a wing walk, I know I would probably get up there and freak out but it’s on my bucket list. I get panicky just climbing the loft ladder 😬

@Lovemusic33 Good god that's not going on my list!! Hope you manage to do it though!

My mam is terrified of heights and I managed to drag her zip lining. I've never heard such a banshee wail but she actually ended up enjoying it and going four times. She did not ease up on the shrieking on any of her goes, but still had a blast.

Stuff like go ape is good too if you're up for a laugh, lots of fun especially if you go with a group.

See, I am really quite comfortable with indoor rock climbing these days, but I struggled with Go Ape. Having said that it was tipping down with rain and the platforms were really slippy.

If you’re serious about overcoming your fear of heights have you ever tried a course? I haven’t done this yet but I’ve heard good things about this one - it’s all about recognising and overcoming your fight/flight/freeze responses using neuro-linguistic programming whilst having a ball doing outdoorsy stuff in the Peak District. will4adventure.com/overcome-fear-heights/
