Liz Truss doesn't have the faintest clue how to 'deliver' growth growth growth

🙄

From the FT article "Headaches in the boardroom" tonight:

As one business leader put it, all those good things that underpin investment in advanced economies — stable regulation, capable regulators, rule of law and deep capital markets — are attractive because they persist beyond political cycles, which are getting ever-shorter as democracies struggle for stability.

This is the absolute opposite of what the Tories offer. They've got a new leader every year; they want to deregulate business and get rid of our human rights; they are objectively incompetent, the actual attorney general recommends breaking international law; and they do the opposite of the norms of economics (eg borrow money to give tax cuts to the richest)

That bastard pie is all she keeps talking about and yet she doesn't have the first clue about economics.

She needs to go asap before we're even more fucked than we are.

I've not heard her say what she means by 'growth' apart from bleating on about building roads and better broadband. Do we really need MORE roads? How about improving the roads we've got already? How about investing in cycle paths? We could build railways and motorways so why not a cycle path?
She doesn't even know what she wants to grow or how to grow it. How about keeping what's already grown in a good shape eg police, NHS, and education. These are the thing that worry your average person on the street the most, getting hospital and GP appointments or a copper when you need one. Make the country safer and healthier and maybe the rest will follow.
She seems to know Jack

Is that the Fiona Bruce programme? I don't watch it because it makes my blood boil how biased it is. Bruce is married to a Tory donor and it shows 🙄🤔 Are you telling me this episode is different?

You didn't need any more words after 'clue' in the first place!

She says she wants to grow pies (I mean, who doesn’t?), but I have no idea how either!

It's true that our lack of economic growth since 2008 has stymied our ability to pay for our welfare state.. but who has been in charge since 08 and it's been 15 years.

I do agree that huge investment in transport infrastructure would generate growth- Birmingham and Manchester and Bristol all need better public transport and railway links that would encourage investment and attract talent from further afield.

If it’s biased, then the first 30 minutes shows just what a disaster the Conservative government have made. Apart from Nadim Zahawi, thrown into the lions den, pretty unanimous the party have lost their reputation on financial management across the wide spectrum. They cannot back down though, so it’s going to be a tough two year for Liz Truss. Like bailing out the Titanic with a thimble.

I'm sad to say it but I think we are royally fucked.

I'm not a fan of Truss, her policies or the Tories, nor am I a fan of Starmer and the lack of opposition but whoever is in charge will be hounded and howled at by the media until the easily manipulated public "demands change" and U-turns, leader changes and elections follow so we get no stability or chance for anything to work
I don't think I have ever felt so gloomy about the future

Do you know that one of the most classic mind control techniques in political campaigning is making people feel 'there is no opposition' which stops them really fighting back?

There clearly is viable and organised opposition in this country so let's bloody start using it, and keep pushing back, rather than giving in to the tried and tested 'well the alternative isn't much better so let's not bother, it'll always be crap' political manipulation that people so easily fall for. We need to stop saying that because it is anything but the organic thought you might think it is.

Keir Starmer and also the Lib Dems would clearly be better than this shit show.
