How late would you allow 16/17 year old girls to stay out

in central London with a 30 min train journey home? No college tomorrow so essentially the weekend for them.

Midnight

‘Allow’? How would you prevent a 16 or 17 year old from leaving the house if they have a mind to? Physical restraint and imprisonment are not actually legal!

Surely by that age you hope you’ve instilled good values in their heads and do your best to facilitate whatever keeps them safe and well if they just do as they please.

Or they have installed good values that include respecting their parents so they abide by a curfew 🙄
At that age I'd say midnight.

Depends on child and what they're doing. I'm kind of inclined to say that once they can be out past pub closing (probably the shadiest time of night) any time on a non-school night as long as they let me know what they're doing, which is what my parents did. And general direction not to do anything that involves going far on your own anywhere likely to be empty/far from people.

Okay perhaps allow is the wrong word. They are currently there. DH wants DD to come home soon as he doesn’t like the idea of her being there after dark and a train journey away if anything happens. I’m prepared to give her more freedom. Last train is before midnight anyway.

I used to stay out til 3:30am at that age (not in London but a large city).

I think once they’re out fairly late then I’m not sure there’s much point setting a curfew if they don’t need to be up the next day. Getting a train home at 1am isn’t more dangerous than a 12am train.

I think the important thing is how easy it is for them to get home at say 12am vs 3am? How frequently do the trains run and when do they stop? Do they have a back up for getting home if they miss the last train?

We live in a London suburb. Last train home to our nearest station was around midnight. If dd missed that, she could get a night bus. As long as her phone was on and she was answering my messages, I didn't worry too much. Didn't sleep until she got home though🤣
