DD Found a Tick On Her Skin. Help!

In the car coming home from school today, DD (15) said that when she was getting changed for PE today she noticed a small scab on her skin to the side of her armpit on her chest/shoulder. She says it was there either last night or this morning ( can’t remember) but she didn’t think much of it. It seemed to be sticking out more today, so she pulled it off and said when she did it came off/ out and looked like a bug. She was embarrassed so didn’t tell anyone or save it. There’s a small red mark there now (tiny). We‘ve had a good look at the rest of her skin and can’t see anything else.

After getting home she’s googled bugs and said it looked exactly like a tick and showed me a picture. She’s now freaking out that she’s been bitten by a tick and that there are more of them in her clothes/bed/everywhere.
We have no experience of anything like this at all. We have no pets of any kind. I don’t think a dog or cat has ever been in our house. We haven’t been for any walks anywhere recently. I‘m totally at a loss as to where this has come from.

Does anyone have any experience / advice about this? We know to look out for Lyme disease, but that’s about all. I just really want to put DD‘s (and mine!) minds at rest that it‘s nothing to worry about!

Does it look like there is any bug left in the skin or only red and healing over? If the latter, mark with biro where the bite was and monitor. If it grows a red ring beyond the biro area call healthcare professionals with a view to getting antibiotics if needed.

Thanks for replying. DD is as sure as she can be that it all came out. She said it looked intact, that’s how she could identify it when she googled it. Skin just looks red. Good tip to mark with a biro, will do that.

How is she today? I can remember my son once got his first tick bit when outside at nursery and I went into panic about it. He's had more since and I'm less panicky! Hope the redness is reducing and all well.

@AnotherFuckingUsername thank you for checking back, that’s really kind of you to remember! All seems ok today, thankfully. There is just a tiny pin-prick red mark there now. No redness around it or anything.

The thing we‘ve been most concerned about really is just, where did it come from? We have no idea how it could have happened. But hopefully everything looks ok and we’ll just have to put it down as “one of those things…”

Glad all seems well Smile

I live in an area with a lot of ticks. So many that there is a vaccine against tick Bourne encephalitis that is recommended.
Lyme disease is the main issue really. She needs to check all over her skin for the next 20 days for a bullseye rash. If one appears go to the doctors and explain about the tick bite and Lyme disease.
Not all ticks carry Lyme. DS had a tick recently. This was the advice we were given and he was fine.

As long as you keep an eye on the site of the bite you shoukld catch any problems.

Please tell her not to worry about where she picked it up, it is very unlikely to be from home (ie it won't be from home) and will just be one of those random events. You don't have to have been on a walk, maybe someone who brushed past her had been. I hope she's not worrying still.

She should be fine but google Lyme disease and keep an eye out for a bulls eye type redness
