My feet hurt. Sensible shoes?

At the grand old age of 28 I'm finally admitting that maybe I need some more supportive shoes than my beloved vans. I know being overweight is likely the biggest cause but my feet just ache all the time. I think because my trainers are quite flat this isnt helping.

Can anyone recommend some trainers that are still stylish but are a bit more supportive of my feet? I have very wide feet too so nothing too narrow. Thankyou.

Do you have flat feet? My DH cannot wear Vans and he is flat footed. He has special arch insoles to help.

I've got awful problems with my feet at the moment and have discovered Joya trainers thanks to the chiropodist I'm seeing. They're freaky beyond words according to my DD, but dear god they're like walking on clouds of air.

I've also got some Vionic shoes that are a bit more fashionable.

I've got very flat feet, and even Skeechers arch fit were uncomfortable.

My feet are wrecked by years of wearing too flat shoes. This summer I bought sandals from a make called vionic which have really helped.
Be warned 99% of the stuff they sell is as ugly as sin and they are not cheap. They do have a fairly plain trainer which looks ok and they are comfortable (and wide)

Asics "Gel-Mission" trainers. I have plantar fasciitis and they have really helped me manage it. I wear them pretty much all the time now. I think I'm on my fourth pair because the fabric lining seems to wear out quickly inside the heel, but it's worth it to be pain-free most of the time. And they're not crazy expensive compared to some brands.

If you wet your feet and stand on a piece of paper, or even the bathroom floor depending on the surface you can often tell if your feet are "flat" or have low arches.
